Assignment 1 – List of Interests
(1) Connect2Concole – Chosen idea.
(2) Dreadline - App that will organise and remind students of deadlines and remaining time. (This
was the app idea that we originally chose to complete. We changed the idea from the feedback
session gained from the Dragon’s in our first feedback session from the experts.)
(3) Beats and Tunes – A gaming app around music.
(4) Future City – A gaming app that would allow you to build up a third world country of your choice
with resources and negotiations.
(5) MineWiki – An information sharing app, all about Minecraft, the game.

The following is our group’s problem statement to our application idea:
“Users of Xbox & PlayStation 3 consoles experience difficulty typing with ease using the standard
controller for data input.”

causing strain in the
fingers and wrist due to
excessive movement. It
can also cause stress and
anger.

save time, money,
avoid injuries,
unneeded anger and
stress?
Using our app will help
them as it connects your
smartphone to your
console and using your
smartphones keyboard
to type messages, sign
up, sign in and also
avoid pain.

Why:
The reason why people should use our app is because typing using the control pad causes mistakes
and also takes too long.“For me every time I try to write on my Xbox I make too many mistakes and
by the time I finish, they (my friends) are usually offline, and buying a keypad for my Xbox is too
expensive.” –Ijaz Raja
What:
Our application is to help people who have difficulty writing with their controllers on xBox and PS3
consoles type faster, prevent pain, save money and also save time.

Who:
The audience of our app is dependent on who owns a console. Our app is for faster typing on a
console, so a person that doesn’t own a console will not use it. This means we have a large range of
people as there are 131 million xBox and PS3 consoles sold worldwide.
Where:
Our app will be most likely to be used at home. The reason for this is that a person would mostly put
their console in their house connected to their TV and play. But this app could be used anywhere
there is an xBox and PS3 console.
When:
The time that this app will be used is whenever a person is playing on their console or when they will
need to type while playing.

Assignment 3 – Market Research
The following research is regarding the Alternatives to our Application idea.As a group we feel that
there is no other existing app/s that solves our problem stated in Section 1. For us to research on
this topic of Alternatives, both primary and secondary research was carried out. We have split our
team into two. The primary researchers have carried out surveys to the members of the public.
Part of our group took the role of researching using secondary data. One method they used was
searches over the Internet to find any other apps that are comparable to ours. Our researchers have
found one app that is similar to ours, which is the Microsoft SmartGlass app which allows you to
change your profile details, type (data entry) on Xbox consoles and give you access to the a, b, x & y
keys. There is also a non-app solution, which is a physical keyboard which can be attached to the
controller and is available for both Xbox and PS3 consoles. However, this solution has a disadvantage
which is money consuming, as you need to purchase hardware with price £10-£20.
The following research is regarding the Users of our app. As a group we feel that there are people
who are in need of our app. Our research method on our users was carried out by our primary
researchers. These were conducted by the other half of the group. We found that 90% of those who
were surveyed needed our app. The age range of our users on average would be 19.

The alternative solutions are not good enough for some people as it takes more time or money to

Microsoft’s SmartGlass app is not easy to use as the keys are in each corner of the screen. Another
example is the physical keyboard which is good because it is QWERTY, but is expensive and takes
time to get hold of. Research has also found that Steve Jobs has troubles trying to type on
