2. What are Mobsters? Mobsters are dangerous thugs who marked a decade of silk suits, diamond rings, guns, booze, and gave the modern conception that gangsters lifestyles are cool. In the public eye, gangsters lifestyles brought fame, money, nice clothes, woman, and cars.

3. 1920’s Crimes… In 1919, with the passage of prohibition, marked a huge way in how gangsters would go about everyday business. The mobsters took up jobs buying and selling illegally made booze or alcohol. Another crime mobsters would participate in was being paid to kill someone.

4. Al Capone… One of the most famous gangsters or mobsters of all time was Al Capone. Al Capone was born in Brooklyn in 1899 to two Italian immigrants. Even as a child, he never responded to authority. In his sixth grade year in school, he beat his female teacher and was expelled after his principle verbally chastised him for the incident. He went on to more serious crimes like bank robberies, auto theft, murder, and selling illegal booze.

5. “Baby Face” Nelson Baby Face was a mobster who was mainly known for his brutal bank robberies, and his ruthlessness with a gun. Baby Face’s earlier criminal career included running stills, stealing tires, bootlegging and armed robbery. Nelson was convicted of auto theft and sent to a boys home. Two years later, he was released on parole, but five months later he was returned on similar charge.

6. Mobster’s reputations… During the Great Depression, mobsters and gangsters would rob big banks. The community didn’t think of them as that bad of criminals. They were even thought of as robin hoods sometimes because they would destroy all of the mortgage records before they left. The community also liked them if they were handsome, polite, photogenic, or if they performed the daring, exciting, day time robberies with brilliant get aways.

7. The Riches… Some mobsters like Al Capone and Baby Face, made lots of money from robbing banks, stealing cars, and robbing people. They were also paid lots of money for taking on the job of being a hit man. A hit man is a person who is paid to kill someone who is getting in the way of something.

8. The Influence on the People… When people thought of gangsters, they would think of famous, rich people, who got all the girls and cars. This was one reason why there are so many gangsters today, because people thought that if you became a gangster and robbed banks, it would be “ easy money “ They were very wrong. Many people end up going to federal prison for life for the crimes that they commit.

9. Jail… Every single famous mobster like Al Capone, Bugs Moran, and Baby Face, were all on FBI’s most wanted list. They were always being watched for. On 1931, Al Capone was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for tax evasion and had to pay a fine of $80,000. Being a mobster is obviously a very risky job because you are always taking the chance of being arrested or even killed.

10. How they became Mobsters… Mobsters all have to start somewhere. Most mobsters are born into poverty so they have to find an easy way to make a lot of money. Others are doing okay in their lives but want to become rich

11. Why I chose This Topic… I chose mobsters or gangsters as my topic because I never really knew what a mobster was. I never knew about how the community could think of them as hero’s, and never even thought that the community would be inspired to commit the same crimes for riches. I also hose this because I wanted to know if they were related to modern day gangsters. I figured out that they aren’t. I think that mobsters would almost be ashamed at what they have become.
