The Mafia Origins The American Mafia is a based off the Sicilian Mafia which originated from the Black Hand Sicilian Mafia was located in Sicily, an island off of Italy. Sicily is located within the red lines
The Mafia’s Revenue Stream Most of their money was from smuggling alcohol in to the US during the Prohibition Others activities include:  Extortion Drug Trafficking  Political Corruption Racketeering
Alfonso “Scarface” Capone Born January 17, 1899 in Brooklyn, NY  The Head of the “Chicago Outfit” A known bootlegger, mobster, and racketeer Was supposed mastermind behind the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre Because of his personality, he was a perfect person for the silver screen
Al Capone Continued Also he was a loving father and husband to his son, Albert Francis Capone, and his wife, Mae Capone When Al Capone was finally convicted, he was charged with tax evasion Capone received his infamous scars because he disrespected a bar goer’s sister and the man pulled out a knife and sliced his face 3 times

St. Valentine’s Day Massacre  On the morning of February 14, 1929, 6 members of the North Side Gang were massacred. Members of the Capone gang lined up the rival gang members, while being dressed as policemen, and shot all of them with 2 Thompson sub-machine guns  This action, which had Capone written all over it, turned public opinion against organized crime syndicates
Fun Facts Al Capone’s bullet-proof Cadillac would be taken by the Government when he was arrested and used his car to make the plans for FDR’s Limo Capone’s cover-up job was a furniture dealership Al Capone only lived in Chicago for 12 years of his life He was called “Snorkey” by his friends and family
