This lesson plan aims to have students create a mental map of locations from the book "Night" by Elie Wiesel. Students will first watch a video clip of Wiesel and discuss what he communicates. They will then list significant locations from the book and research one in groups, finding historical facts and GPS coordinates. Groups will present their findings and the class will collaborate on a Google Map of all locations. The lesson seeks to help students remember the Holocaust through understanding the places Wiesel describes.

4. Students will conduct group research on each location

6. Lesson Development

7. Lead the class in a formulation of a list of significant locations from “Night” (5-10 minutes)

8. Divide the class into groups and assign each group a location to research. Have students research relevant historical facts along with GPS coordinates to be used in constructing a class map of the book (35 minutes)

9. Have students make brief presentations to the class about their locations and what they found from their research (25 minutes) Presentations should address:

11. Relevancy to the book

12. Overall historical relevancy to WWII

13. Interesting facts about the location

14. After the group presentations, I will lead the class in formulating a class Google Maps of the various locations which will include each group’s presentation for each location (10 minutes)

16. Summative – group presentations will serve as the primary summative assessment as well as the final class Google Map
