[magazine] A2 Media Studies Max Payne Magazine Analysis
1. MASTHEAD – The title “Total
Film” is bold. The words are
sharp, crisp and stand out in the
poster. This was used in
conjunction with the weapons
Max Payne’s holding. It
represents him as a strong bold
person.
PRICE – The price on this
magazine is relatively small to
prevent customers looking
elsewhere as the price is £3.90!
If the price is large e.g. how
Glamour set the price large then
customers will go somewhere
else!
2. COVER LINES – The cover lines
are referencing to the film Max
Payne as one cover line says
“MOVIES MADE ME… KILL! ROB!
CHANGE SEX!” which is fanatical.
This might suggest that
the magazine is aimed at fans
who are serious about this type
of genre.
BAR CODE – The bar code is
located at the front of the
magazine on the bottom left
side
3. MAIN IMAGE – A medium shot of
Max Payne is the centre image of
the magazine. The weapons he’s
holding with the concentrated
look represents the power he
has. Dark scarf, dark clothing
with the dark background
represents a cold world he’s in.
Almost telling the audience
“be prepared for the worst”.
Max Payne is being used as part
of the misc-en-scene.
4. COLOUR SCHEME – The colour
scheme is based on dark
contrasting colours such as black
and grey. This adheres with the
shattered broken font of Max
Payne representing the
dangerous conspiracy location.
The addition of snow represents
the cold struggle.
5. SKYLINE – There is no special
attraction on top of the
magazine
STRAPLINE – There is no bar of
information that runs across
the top of the page
ANCHOR TEXT – The actor Simon
Pegg and movie GI JOE is used
at the bottom of the magazine to
lure to read the article inside
the magazine about them.
6. LAYOUT – The hierarchy of this
magazine with the words Max
Payne with the Total
Film scrolling to the guns to the
words Max Payne. This
represents that this magazine
aims at the more 16-30 male
target audience. The gun sticking
from the foreground shows the
audience he will shoot you.
