1. Resume comments
You can’t simply list “family” as the contact information. List your Family name and address.
Do not mix together a skill (such as work ethic) and an activity such as Choir; keep your skills list limited
to essentials or those skills that relate to your job objective
In listing your activities, note if you had any leadership awards
Put your phone number is a punctuated format such as (724) 941-6250 or else indicate that it is a
phone number. The reader shouldn’t have to think about the number and decide what it is.
Separate the major sections of your resume
Generally resumes contain bulleted items not whole sentences.
The double arrow punctuation mark looks is ineffective. Use bullets instead.
Showing your qualities by listing your activities and experiences would be a better way to demonstrate
your qualities rather than a long list of words you choose to describe yourself. Shorten the qualities and
lengthen the activities and experience.
Saying summa cum laude or similar terms is not enough detail. This might not make sense to a person
outside of our school system. When? Where?
Give complete information for your employment or volunteer data: Full name for business, street
address, supervisor's name, phone, etc.
When citing years such as 2010 write the whole year 2010 not 10 Writing Jan 12 for the date can make it
look as though you are describing the 12th day of January.
It appears that Career Cruising prompts you to add sophomore or junior to the resume. However, if you
look at this word, it makes no sense to put it there and can cause confusion. You have to evaluate the
things a program tells you to do and determine if it makes sense to do that. In this case, it does not.
If I were hiring someone in your field or I were an admission officer for college program, I wouldn't see
anything in your resume that would show me how much you want to pursue this program or how much
you love the field. That's what your resume should show. I should see your best qualities.
