2. Android! … Owning Barcelona 2011!
• Almost all Smartphones & Tablets announced at MWC run Android!
• Dual core, Dual screen, Dual SIM, 3D display, 3D rec., 2G devices all available on
Android!
• Android devices come in a wide range:
– processors from 400MHz up to Dual 1GHz processors
– RAM memory from 256MB up to 1GB
– Expanding the Smartphone playfield from 3G to 2G reaching new lowest price points
and full access to market place.
the user experience is very fragmented!
• Google announced:
– 150K apps available, 350K activations/day, 170 handsets available from 27 vendors
in 69 countries at 169 carriers
With the wealth of all new devices announced being Android and
some inspired “ Google Marketing “ it could be argued that MWC
2011 nearly became the first Android Phone show.

6. Technology
• Speed & Processing power the key words for 2011
– Dual-core is becoming a qualifier for “super-phones” and tablets
• Samsung Galaxy S II, LG Optimus 3D, Motrola Atrix, plus the Honeycomb tablets
– Higher density of RAM memory
• Samsung Galaxy S II, Motorola Atrix plus the Honeycomb Tablets use 1GB RAM
• HTC updating the Desire S to 768MB RAM
• Connectivity
– Focus on HSPA+ over LTE compared to CES
• HSPA+ 21Mbps, HSPA+ 14.4Mbps
– NFC
– WiFi on 5GHz band in phones appear. WiFi-Direct
• Imaging
– 3D recording, dual 5MP. 3D playback in 720p (on phone or on 3D TV via HDMI)
– 1080p recording and playback
– “Megapixel race” not relevant any more. 8MP highest resolution in announced new devices
• Display also a major factor to compete with (on par with processor speed)
– The fight is in color depth, brightness, resolution. All vendors have unique names e.g.
Nova(LG), Retina (Apple), Bravia Engine (SEMC)
• Improved battery capacity
– Moving beyond 1500mAh: Galaxy S II 1650mAh, Motorola Atrix 1930mAh
