What is YOGA?
• According to www.yogananda-srf.org
  Yoga is a holistic philosophy and
  practice which can be used as a
  therapeutic and preventive science.
  Yoga evolved several thousand
  years ago in India as a system of
  spiritual enlightenment. It was a
  practice to follow for well-rounded
  health.
What comes to mind when
    we think of Yoga?
• Spirituality, relaxation, distressing,
  detoxification are some of words that
  we can correlate with Yoga.
• Images that come to mind are
  women sitting on a mat with legs
  crossed and hands placed on the
  knees with fingers held in a upward
  position.
History

  Yoga has been practiced for over
  5,000 years and about 11 million
  Americans take advantage of its
  health benefits.

  Yoga stemmed from a princes
  frustration over the materialist life to
  which he consults his Creator as a
  result he is advised to focus with a
  keen mind giving up ego and being
  devoted which in turn results into
  purification of the mind, body and

What Yoga is not?
• A religion, it can help you in your own
  belief system . It isn’t a cure for a
  particular illness. It can help or aid in
  the healing or behaviors that can
  bring about a healthier outlook but it
  isn’t by itself a cure.
Physical Yoga
• This is the training of the physical
  body to tame the mind and
  improve concentration, focus
  which can lead to a more spiritual
  development.
Nature
• Studying the Natural such as
  breathing pattern of animals and
  plants and trees it is concluded that
  those with slow heart rates live longer
  and firmly rooted trees survive
  storms.
