- Portable media is also huge and is enabling kids in schools to to more sophisticated multimedia activities.
- Huge trend in society … rise and rise of social software … meaning for educators?? (Jury is still out … you decide!) Quite revolutionary … Web has become 2-way! Kids (and teachers) can now be PRODUCERS as well as ‘consumers’ of information on the web. Ie. Social software is both a ‘push’ technology (authorship process) and a ‘pull’ technology ‘ (viewing process) Leading to new social practices, and social networking. Leading to new ways of self-organisation and collaborative learning!!

- Name is based on the Hawaiian term wiki, meaning "quick", "fast", or "to hasten"Online editable webpages … eg. great for team projects & collaborative writing! NB. Recently introduced into UTSOnline too (again, not a fad!) Help build up of ‘social knowledge’ (eg. Wikipedia) Interesting educational tool - allows learners to express themselves with very few constraints - ultimate in freedom and flexibility!
