Plagiarism As it says on the “Plagiarism – The Do’s and Don’ts, means “using someone else’s work without acknowledging the person, or giving credit. (it could be in the form of words, ideas, art graphics, computer programs, music, and other creative expression.)
Examples Original Version: Rhodes, Melody. "Typing Practice: Using a Pangram to Master Keyboard Letters." Weblogpost. Continuing Education. N.p., 29 Jan. 2010. Web. 21 July 2010. <http://continuingeducation.suite101.com/article.cfm/typing-practice>. While a number of sentences utilize all letters of the alphabet, one pangram that is recognized and used frequently is the following example: THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG. This humorous pangram creates a vivid mental picture, which makes it easy to remember. It is short and, more importantly, it can be quickly mastered with practice.
Examples Student Version There are many types of pangram but the most frequently used is: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. It is easy to remember because it's funny and creates a vivid mental picture. And more importantly, it is short , and can quickly be mastered with practice. Student Version 2: There are a number of sentences that uses all the letters of the alphabet. But as Melody Rhodes said in her blogpost, Typing Practice, “One pangram that is recognized and used frequently is the following example: THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG. This humorous pangram creates a vivid mental picture, which makes it easy to remember. It is short and, more importantly, it can be quickly mastered with practice.”
Types of Plagiarism Intentional - submitting a paper, drawing, etc as your own and purposely altering or falsifying citation to hide sources. Unintentional – not knowing how to cite, sloppy research or note taking, cutting and pasting.
Plagiarism Illegal under the law of copyright. Morally wrong to steal someone else’s work Plagiarism stops you from expressing your own thoughts . If you plagiarize, you hurt other students by having their work judge and evaluated with professional writers’ work.
How to avoid Plagiarism Use your own words most of the time. When using another person’s work use quotation marks and give credit (within the text, footnote, or endnote.) Even if worded differently but has the same idea; the author still deserves credit. If your not sure, add the footnote or citation. Its better to be cautious than be in the risk of plagiarizing.
