Textbook affordability and flexibility is more important than ever in times of shrinking budgets, enrollment concerns, and remote learning. Students’ lives have been disrupted and helping them get back on track to complete their education is critical. Open educational resources significantly reduce student costs and have been shown to improve outcomes particularly for traditionally underserved populations. Open resources also provide flexibility for faculty as they continue to adapt their teaching for unfolding circumstances. Join the Midwestern Higher Education Compact as they host the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER) to hear how higher education institutions can work together on open education policy, professionalism, stewardship, and sustainability across regional and state boundaries to find solutions to common challenges. CCCOER is leading conversations with regional leaders of open education (RLOE) to support statewide and national projects for expanding access while creating resilience and sparking innovation at institutions of higher education. At this same time, accreditors began asking for proof positive of student learning outcomes. It was called “institutional effectiveness.” Read what the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools says about institutional effectiveness: SECTION 7: Institutional Planning and Effectiveness Effective institutions demonstrate a commitment to principles of continuous improvement, based on a systematic and documented process of assessing institutional performance with respect to mission in all aspects of the institution. An institutional planning and effectiveness process involves all programs, services, and constituencies; is linked to the decision-making process at all levels; and provides a sound basis for budgetary decisions and resource allocations. 1. The institution engages in ongoing, comprehensive, and integrated research-based planning and evaluation processes that (a) focus on institutional quality and effectiveness and (b) incorporate a systematic review of institutional goals and outcomes consistent with its mission. (Institutional Planning) 2. The institution identifies expected outcomes of its administrative support services and demonstrates the extent to which the outcomes are achieved. (Administrative effectiveness) Many institutions began studying how to implement something now referred to as assessment. Assessment was to occur for each academic and administrative unit in the university. During this same timeframe, Mississippi College adopted James O. Nichols’ model on university assessment. Nichols, then the Director of University Planning and Institutional Research at the University of Mississippi, is known for his work in university assessment practices. For more information on this, you may want to read James Nichols’ book entitled Assessment Case Studies: Common Issues in Implementation with Various Campus Approaches to Resolution expounding on ways to help implement the assessment model. There are three basics of curriculum, which is knowledge, learner, as well as society and should be put into consideration. Each of the three factors should be equally considered when coming up with a proposal of a curriculum. The foundations of the curriculum are plating a crucial role in the planning of the curriculum alongside shaping and influencing the mind of individuals developing a curriculum (McNeil & Thompson, n.d., p. 66). The curriculum is categorized under three categories which psychology, philosophy, as well as sociology, which affect the way developers, do plan curriculum and the curriculum development process. This paper is a proposal that is to be used for a newly established curriculum that is outlined on various curriculum foundation areas towards meeting the new state of standards that are created alongside coming up with an improvement to the school that is selected. Gold Elementary school will be the school chosen for this assignment, whereby the proposed new curriculum will be developed. The paper will begin by summarizing aspects that are submitted from the task that is describing a specific curriculum area regarding the pilot project as well as the core instructional goals to be used for the curriculum. The paper will also be describing various curriculum development approaches which are used alongside the theoretical methods as well as psychological strategies that are in line with the essential instructional goals of the planned curriculum. Similar, cultural influences that are significantly impacting the selected school alongside the effective ways of integrating my planned curriculum with the cultural influences. The paper will summarize by outlining the strategies I have developed to have critical thinking skills incorporated into my proposed plan by the use of “Bloom’s Taxonomy of Cognitive Objectives” not forgetting their rationales that are corresponding (AHN, 2017, p. 107). Area of Target and Type of Curriculum Education The pilot curriculum that is proposed is planning to incorporate STEAM Education in all the grade students to grade five students in Gold Elementary School. STEAM education is consisting of disciplines like science, technology, engineering, art as well as mathematics. STEAM knowledge is crucial in keeping the students with technology alongside ensuring that they are engaged in the process of active learning. The STEAM knowledge is also useful in transforming ideas that are new into the best innovation and inventions as well as making the students more innovative. Because more students choose to start their college careers at community colleges, we must understand the special challenges they face along the pathway to earning a baccalaureate degree in STEM. These slides communicate the results of am October 2009 workshop in Belknap Springs aimed at understanding these challenges and identifying best-practices in overcoming them. The workshops was sponsored by the National Science Foundation and is associated with the NSF DUE STEP program.

Since 2004, Truman State University has trained students to conduct interdisciplinary research in mathematical biology through a combination of research experiences with faculty collaborators, courses, and ﬁeld trips. This program of experiences for undergraduates has been made possible by the National Science Foundation’s Interdisciplinary Training for Undergraduates in Biology and Mathematics (UBM) program. This talk will outline our courses and our research program (including a portfolio-based interdisciplinary minor in mathematical biology), what we have learned about assessing interdisciplinary learning, and the role ﬁeld trips have played in the professional development of faculty and students.
