2. Consumers’ Organisation
The first organisation was established in 1960 as the
International Organisation of Consumers Unions (IOCU).
Consumers’ Organisation may operate by protests and
campaigning.
3. Consumers have the right:
To the satisfaction of basic needs;
To safety;
To be informed;
To choose;
To be heard;
To redress (to correct something that is unfair or wrong);
To consumer education;
To a healthy environment .
4. World Consumers’s Rights Day
On 15 March, 1962, US President John F. Kennedy
delivered an historic address to the US Congress in which
he formally mentioned the issue of consumers’ rights. He
was the first world leader to do so and the consumer
movement now marks 15th March every year.
5. Letter of complaint
We should use this tipe of letter when we are
unhappy with something:
A product (something we have bought);
A service (something we have experienced, like a rude waitress
in a café).
6. What do we need to do in this type of letter?
State the reason why we are writting:
I’m writting to complain…
Give the reasons why we are complaining, supported
by evidence:
I was shocked by the rudeness of your staff. The waitress
ignored me in your café on Friday while I was waithing at the
counter.
