The Cloud
As a TECHNOLOGY
It is a new paradigm
involving VIRTUALIZATION as its enabling
technology and enhancing the idea of
CONTAINERs as resources hosting environments
that offer some set of services to them
It delivers the shared idea of harvesting multiple
server-based resources via a digital network
(WAN, Web, …) without having to care about
where the resource is located, nor how it wil
be delivered

Does the application support functions that are desired by the users?
How easy is it for the users to use the application at the first time
they encounter it?
Is the workload for the interaction with the application kept to a minimum?

Archeovirtual 2012 –General Information
V-MusT.net work package
Surveyed people are composited as follows:
Gender: 191 females and 191 males
Age range: 7-70 years with an average of 34 years
Home continent: 93.96% from Europe,
3.41% from North America, 1.31% from Middle East,
0.26% each from Africa, Asia and Australia
Occupation
39.53% of these people had
already their occupation
between 1 and 5 years and
29.06% worked in their field
more than 10 years. Only a
small amount of 5.50% had
their occupation less than 1
year. 19.90% of the persons
had their occupation more
than 5 till 10 years.
50% of the persons rated their
personal level of computer
experiences as medium which is
defined as not having any
programming skills, but have
learned and used many different
computer applications. A high
amount of 40% indicated to have
also some programming skills. Only
9% have a low level of computer
experience which means that they
have only used one or two different
computer applications.

The experiences with ICT reflects on the usage of different devices. Thus, the PC is widely used with
an amount of 82% on a daily basis. Even more than half of the persons stated to use the smartphone
every day. Less used are the Tablet PC and the Navigation system, but still at around 50% of the
persons said that they use them once or a few times a week.

42,86% of the participants of the questionnaire
stated that all available functions were useful
and interesting to them.
Another 42,86% mentioned that the virtual museum contained also some unnecessary
ones, e.g. have the possibility to directly exit from the photo-mode – which shows main
images of the archaeological site - and soon click on the pictures which most interest the
user. 14,26 declared to have no answer about it.
For 57,14% the virtual museum was easy to use
from the beginning. 35,71% stated that it was hard in
the beginning, but it became easier after a while.
Only 7,14% stated that it was hard to use it all the time. In contrast to this personal
estimate of the participants, during the interview it was observed that after a first
learning phase, most participants were able to retrieve information of interest for
the user.
89.29% determined that is was adequate time to reach
their goals, even if 10.71% mentioned that the system
reacted too slowly.
For a large extent of 78.57% it was a totally new
experience to interact with such a virtual museum.
21.43% knew it a bit, but still enjoyed. Nobody disliked the virtual museum
and felt bored. Someone claimed that the VM is partially new as for the 3D mode
of navigation and, in general, the idea behind the application is still low-cost
and easy to maintain even if graphics needs improvements.
As a result:
The evaluation confirmed the suitability for the interface to supports effective knowledge
construction, reducing the complexity of vast cultural datasets.

Conclusions
The interface implements a `containable` framework, i.e. a high level extended container providing
services to collect heterogeneous cultural data, while hiding specific complexities;
The employment of the service within the Porticoes Project is giving us the chance to extend the
prototype to a Jboss deployable service.
