1. EBI is an Outstation of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory.
MIMIX, MIAPAR,
MIABE
2. MIMIx (molecular interactions)
1. Published 2007 (Orchard et al NBT)
2. Scope – experiments describing molecular interactions,
in practise mainly PPIs
3. XML and Tab-deliminated data formats. PSI-MI CV
supported by established editorial board.
2
3. Level of implementation
• Adopted by all known major databases, either directly as
part of the data model or through indirect mapping on
export.
• Extensive tool development e.g. Cytoscape, R
Bioconductor interface
• PSICQUIC web service implemented by 15 databases
allowing users to access >15million binary interactions
with a single query
3
4. Status, contributors, funding
• Reviewed annually at PSI meeting, CV updated released
several times/year.
• Approx. 14 databases actively contributing + tool
developers + large scale data producers.
• Lead to establishment of the IMEx consortium (
www.imexconsortium.org) – sharing of curation activities
across 10 participating databases, common curation
manual, production of a single, non-redundant dataset
• Activities funded by FP7 CSA grant (PSIMEx) + individual
database grants + PSI sponsors.

5. MIAPAR
• Extension of MIMIx to encompass protein-affinity reagent
(Ab-Ag) interactions
• Published 2010 (Bourbeillon et al, NBT) - extension to
PSI-MI XML format, dedicated CV
• More difficult to establish, area dominated by commercial
companies
• Large EC project, Affinomics, supporting the effort
5
6. MIABE
• Extension of MIMIx to encompass bioactive entity-target
reagent (Drug-Target) interactions
• Produced under auspices of EBI Industry group/PSI
• Currently under review (NRDD) - uses PSI-MI XML
format and CV
• Supported by ChEMBL and PubChem – ChEMBL already
has PSICQUIC service in place.
