The course teaches managers, supervisors and other
employees how to assist a co-worker who is developing a
mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
Mental health problems covered:
- Depression
- Anxiety problems
- Psychosis
- Substance use problems
Mental health crises covered:
- Suicidal thoughts and
behaviours
- Non-suicidal self-injury
- Panic attacks
- Traumatic events
- Severe psychotic states
- Severe effects from alcohol or
other drug use

6. Blended Course Structure
• Designed for workplaces that require increased flexibility, this is a
Blended Course a combination of self-paced online learning
(eLearning) and half a day of follow-on face-to-face training.
• Course participants first complete the interactive eLearning
component that presents an overview of mental health problems and
mental health crises in workplace settings.
• The follow-on half day face-to-face training allows participants the
opportunity to:
o Revise and consolidate skills in a group environment,
o Address mental health problems in the workplace in more depth
o Discuss ‘what next’ in using their MHFA knowledge and skills at work.
