A driver can bail out of a lot of sticky situations if he plans ahead. More often than not, things go south on you when you think nothing could go wrong. So it pays to hope for the best and plan for the worst, especially on the road. Here are some things that should always be kept in your car for all those just in case moments.
Essential things that should always be in your car

What happens when the digital tools and platforms we make and use for communication and entertainment are hijacked for terrorism, violence against the vulnerable and nefarious transactions? What role do designers and developers play? Are we complicit as creators of these technologies and products? Should we police them or fight back? As Portfolio Lead for Northern Lab, Northern Trust's internal innovation startup focused on client and partner experience, Antonio will share a mix of provocative scenarios torn from today's headlines and compelling stories where activism and technology facilitated peace—and war. As a call-to-action for designers and developers to engage in projects capable of transformational change, he'll explore the question: How might technology foster new experiences to better accelerate social activism and make the world a smarter, safer place?

The benchmark study measures how well Canadian and American economic development agencies are marketing and strategically branding their regions to site selectors and potential investors via the web. The use of various social media tools were assessed based on the level of engagement with individuals, the availability of relevant and current content for site selectors on the agency's website and the opportunity to view information on a smartphone via the agency’s mobile version of their site were considered as a part of the ranking process. Where has all the top talent gone? In the past, the people we wanted to hire for our companies were plentiful and easy to find. Lately, their skills are all wrong, and keeping the talent we already have is harder and harder as well. It may seem counterintuitive to look to social media marketing and branding for the answers, but at its heart, HR and social media are both about relationships. During this session, the managing director of social and talent strategies at an IT professional services firm will help you build a strategic framework for social media planning. You'll find out how to define your employer brand, ways to perform and employer brand audit on social media, what a social careers page can do to energize your company's reputation, and how to measure the success of your employer branding efforts to command the attention of your company's C-suite executives.

The use of enterprise social networking platforms is on the rise as organizations look to these emerging tools to facilitate employee collaboration, knowledge sharing, increased engagement, improved productivity, and even to foster fundamental shifts in culture. As more and more employee interactions take place within these enterprise collaboration tools, new and interesting data emerges about employees, teams, projects, goals, content and other aspects of the enterprise. This new data, gleaned through analysis of the activities within the collaboration platform, includes insights into how people work and collaborate, the type and quality of content that is contributed and leveraged in the community, the effectiveness of different communications, the degree to which individuals are perceived as leaders or followers, and much more. The emergence of this new data enables much richer insights into the workforce of the organization. It enables the infusion of social intelligence into traditional talent management processes, such as performance, calibration, succession and retention. Combining social and workforce analysis enables People Insight 2.0. In this session, we’ll look how organizations can leverage the opportunities of People Insight 2.0. We’ll cover the tools used and opportunities stemming from the analysis of network connections, community activity, sentiment analysis, employee reputation management, and others. We’ll also explore the ways by which this social data can increasingly be incorporated into workforce analytics and workforce planning platforms for a more holistic view of the workforce. We’ll review use cases and provide practical tips for how you can immediately apply these new social workforce insights to your talent management initiatives, transforming your people processes for better business results.

Without a clear sense of the value social media creates, it’s perhaps not surprising that why we don’t feel comfortable when Organization go beyond mere “experiments” with social-media strategy. A social dynamic seems to have entered the very nature of any business. The technologically advanced stage that business operates in, and the social media savvy talent pool that is fast making its way into the workforce, have made social media gain acceptance in organization much faster than the WWW in 1995 or the ERP in the 1980. Social media is extending the disruptive impact of the digital era across a broad range of functions. From the days when the debate centered on whether or not to allow social networking sites in workplace for the fear of drop in productivity, to a time when today organizations are increasingly incorporating such practices within the formal system, Social media has found its business relevance. Organizations are gradually accepting the power of this medium and are actively making transition from being broadcasters to being mediators of a conversation. In fact, we can precisely determine the buzz surrounding our product or brand and then calculate how social media drives. And then ensure that social media complements broader strategies— we must obviously coordinate data, tools, technology, and talent across multiple functions. In many cases, senior management should open up their agendas and recognize the importance of supporting and even undertaking initiatives that may traditionally have been left to the marketing or communications department.
