Digital disruption is happening now in companies large and small, and yet, we are largely still running our organizations the way we always have. Doing the same things repetitively, at scale and with a focus on maximum efficiency. But a shift is underway. In the real-time, mobile-first, cloud-first world, these are no longer the best strategies for success or even survival; agility and flexibility are increasingly important alongside efficiency.
The Shift – Change imperatives for business today –
Customers > Brand Ambassadors:
A companies’ company’s relationship with customers, or for that matter a government agency’s with their citizens, is fundamentally different today. In the old world, customers and citizens were passive recipients of goods and services. Today they are active participants in product development, feedback, and in many cases the actually marketing and communications for a brand or organization. Think of the power of #fail on twitter. How entities respond in real time on social networks can define how consumers view them and alter purchase intent and favorability.
We are able to interact with our customers in real time and that is crucial today. The millennial effect, which is that fact that by 2020 millennials will make up the majority of the workforce is helping to drive this. Millennials are not accepting the status quo at work, or in how they experience service from companies, the rise of social media and social listening as a tool for engagement and brand advocacy, helps illustrate this point. Of course in order to do so, our own technology and organization needs to adapt.
Static Hierarchies > Dynamic Networks:
As previously mentioned, what organizations today don’t consider efficiency paramount? Of course efficiency is important, but is it enough?
The structure of today’s organizations is rooted in the Industrial Revolution and evolved through the 20th century. This evolution was driven by the need for organizations to expand, but do so in a managed fashion. Structures based on strict hierarchies, driven by a focus on control and efficiency; but perhaps not as agile and empowering in today’s fast paced world.
Increasingly today, organizations value efficiency, but aim for agility. We see this in how organizations are moving away from strict hierarchies to a more agile, dynamic, networked model. The extreme of this is the “Hollywood Model” where talented individuals come together to work collaboratively on a project, breaking across corporate and organizational boundaries, dispersing once the project is complete.
Scare information > Accessible insights:
We all know that the volume of data that we are creating and have access to is growing, seemingly exponentially, driven by the huge increase in the number of devices in our pockets, apps we download and the explosion in instrumented devices stemming from the Internet of Things. This is in marked contrast to recent decades where not only information was scarce, but it also was power! Information/data was to be hoarded and protected. This, impacted by the rise of dynamic networks is outmoded. Today, with the abundance of data at our finger tips; it’s important to be able to translate this into insight and action. Empowering people through familiar tools built to handle any data, whether that’s Excel or Power BI is crucial to helping us uncover the stories and answers buried into accessible data. Software also needs to play a role in helping to filter, prioritize and act on data for us based on our preferences and pre-set parameters. Increasingly this will be important as digital assistants like Cortana become prevalent.
Siloed Productivity > Collective Value Creation:
The nature of how we collaborate together has fundamentally changed. We know work gets done in teams – ad-hoc teams, long-standing teams, dynamic teams. At its most basic element, groups of people coming together to solve a business problem. This is a shift in focus away from “me-centric” work to “we-centric” work, where people not only come together to form teams quickly to solve problems but are empowered to collaborate, early, often and by default, rather than working in a vacuum and waiting for feedback until it’s too late.
Transactional systems > Systems of intelligence:
Revitalizing and enabling businesses differentiation with modern, connected, and trusted systems is now considered a requirement for virtually every competitive business. As much as apps can help complete tasks or create content, it’s the systems and platforms that underlie companies, connecting people and departments that are critical to future success. As leading enterprises come face-to-face with the IoT, they are uncovering opportunities to embed hardware and sensors in their digital toolboxes – not only bridging the last mile between the digital enterprise and the physical world – but also improving customer experiences and even inventing new products, services and more intelligent business processes.
Security in the server room > Security in the board room:
In today’s world, there is an immense opportunity for enterprises to drive business value from digital transformation across mobile, social, data, and cloud technology. However, the opportunity for threats also increases as new channels open for security vulnerabilities. As the stakes rise and hackers become more sophisticated, the new value generated in today’s digital world can be quickly diminished as a result of a security breach. * Security and privacy in today’s enterprise is not just an IT issue—it is a business issue. The implications of a security breach reach far beyond just the costs of fixing the security problem. The business-level implications that can threaten a company’s position in the market include loss in customer loyalty, brand reputation, intellectual property (IP), market share, profits, and revenue—not to mention huge legal liabilities and job loss. As technology becomes a core part of business today, security and data protection needs to be embedded in an enterprise’s strategy and culture.

What does this shift mean? In the world of productivity, it translates into value propositions that Microsoft has tried to integrate into Office 365.

Office 365 is built to facilitate teams and networks.
We have a whole host of tools that enable accessible personal and organizational insights.
Security in the boardroom translate to people-centric security where we strive to secure the environment that people are working in.

So, this shifting marketplace and these three key areas caused us to reinvent productivity and how we view business processes. That’s what Office 365 is all about.
Let’s take a look at Office 365 and how it is responding to these changes.

These requests from customers have deeply informed the new investments we're here to share with you today.
We’ve thought about bringing new value to these interlocking needs in terms of three pillars:
1. Modern Collaboration
Connecting with coworkers, customers and partners is critical for anyone’s business. Too often, collaboration is blocked by technology silos, competing platforms, distance and security concerns or a solution that might be too hard to use. Our new Modern Collaboration investments center on giving customers a truly real time communications platform, where the cloud enables all forms of meetings, calls and interactive collaboration to work (and be managed) together. Companies increase their reach with customers in a secured platform. These are all investments delivered from Skype for Business in Office 365
2. Personalized Insight
For data to have impact given the sheer volume of information we face today, it must be personalized by intelligent software and tools that understand the context of why people do things, not simply what they do. Our new investments in this area center on bringing that personalized intelligence to bear through two Business Intelligence offerings, one that accrues from any data source and one which surfaces unique insights into how a team or organization is actually functioning.
3. People Centric Compliance
Finally, for an organization to enable these high-value collaboration and insights scenarios, it needs great controls that make it simple for users to protect their data and for administrators to scale permissions as needed. The capabilities we are announcing here present significant advantage in the market, enabling our users to easily keep data encrypted and defend against even unknown security threats while giving administrators best in class control over data access.
Now we’ll take a look at the new components of each pillar.
Let’s first look at our Modern Meetings capabilities, followed by Cloud PBX and PSTN Calling (optional add-on). With Skype for Business and Office 365, audio , video and web meetings are combined in one connected user experience and platform, with high definition video and a broad range of devices from Microsoft and partners.
To existing capabilities, we are adding Skype Meeting Broadcast and PSTN Conferencing.
First, with Skype Meeting Broadcast, organizations can now host meetings to reach thousands of attendees. Skype Meeting Broadcast adds to our existing capabilities so now customers can run every kind of meeting, from 1:1 to 1:few to 1:thousands.
Second, we are adding PSTN Conferencing (Public Switch Telephone Network) so meeting attendees can dial-in to Skype meetings from virtually any device. Meeting organizers can also dial-out to attendees and bring them into the meeting. Companies can consolidate conferencing solutions and simplify operations while reducing complexity for people, reducing support costs for IT and enabling employees to work from virtually anywhere.
Skype for Business is one solution for every kind of meeting.
Now let’s look at our investments for Cloud PBX & PSTN Calling.
With our Cloud PBX, customers can eliminate separate PBX systems. The modern requirements on how people use voice today are covered, including voice mail, call forwarding, delegation and team calling. Users can call coworkers or any phone number outside their organization using their PCs, browsers, mobiles and a wide range of certified devices.
With a hybrid deployment, organizations can connect Skype for Business’ Cloud PBX to their existing PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) calling plans and leverage their telco contracts.
Alternatively, organizations can consolidate vendors with PSTN calling plans offered directly from Microsoft.
Now let’s look at our investments for Analytics and Personalized insight.
In addition to the existing functionality at the bottom of the slide, we are announcing the following additions to our productivity suite.
Power BI Pro is a business analytics service that enables information workers to visualize and analyze data with greater speed, efficiency, and understanding. It connects users to a broad range of live data through dashboards, interactive reports, and compelling visualizations that bring data to life.
Delve Analytics allows you as a team leader to discover how your organization actually works. A rich interactive dashboard provides insights into key trends such as reach, influence and work-life balance across an individual and team’s engagement with internal and external teams.
Delve, on the other hand, allows you as an individual to see and search the documents and sites that are providing value for those around you. With authentication protection that only shows a user documents they have rights to, Delve brings information out of silos by surfacing it for those who need it.
Powering Delve, Delve Analytics and more, the Office Graph uses sophisticated machine learning techniques to map the relationships between people, content, and activity that occurs across Office 365. It will also power experiences across Office 365 like Delve and Clutter, and organizations can write code to take further, custom advantage of this programmable layer.
Excel’s latest Power BI capabilities provide robust personal data analysis tools to individual users. Filter, shape, and merge queries from multiple data sources, and pull from external, public data sources like Twitter alongside corporate data. all within Excel.
Finally, continuing our deep investments and we’re delivering a great deal of new security & compliance value, let’s take a moment to unpack it.
Customer LockBox
This first offering is quite unique. As a cloud services provider, we recognize that organizations understandably want to have full control over access to their content stored in cloud services. In fact, to maximize data security and privacy for Office 365 customers, we have engineered the service to require nearly zero interaction with customer content by Microsoft employees. All access is obtained through a rigorous access control technology called Customer LockBox for Office 365, giving customers explicit control over their own data.
This means that Microsoft Engineers do not have standing access to any service operation in the very rare instances when a someone may need access to customer content to resolve a customer issue. Today within Microsoft, Lockbox enforces access control through multiple levels of approval, providing just-in-time access with limited and time-bound authorization. In addition, all access control activities in the service are logged and audited. More details : https://blogs.office.com/2015/04/21/announcing-customer-lockbox-for-office-365
Secure Attachments/URLs
Another significant investment we’re announcing is advanced protection against unknown & sophisticated threats in end-user email, attachments & URLs.
This offering set includes three key capabilities. Safe Attachments protect against unknown malware and viruses. Safe Links provide real time, time-of-click protection against malicious URLs. And Click Trace provides rich reporting and URL trace capabilities.
Safe Attachments opens documents attached to emails in cordoned-off virtual environments (VM’s) to detect malicious behavior
Safe Links wraps external links in special URLs that check the destination URL for threats before opening them
Click Trace keeps a record of every user who has clicked on a Safe Link-wrapped URL for additional protection.
Office 365 Advanced eDiscovery
Finally, our new Advanced eDiscovery offering simplifies the eDiscovery process across your email and document repositories. Duplicate Detection & Thread Analysis simplifies email review. Predictive coding trains the system to identify relevant email and documents. And Themes and Search help you quickly map unstructured data.
This new machine learning & analytics functionality improves up our existing eDiscovery offering by:
Significantly reducing document review costs
Speeding up the document review process
Using core technology (Equivio) that has already achieved broad acceptance in the legal community
Jatkossa tulee olemaan tapa miten uutta sisältöä ja tieto hallitaan Office 365:ssä
