3. The Skillful and Challenging Teacher
"A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart. Their job is to
teach the student they have, not the ones they would like to have, not the ones they
use to have but those they have right now.”
She is a teacher at D.T. Durano Memorial Integrated School (DTDMIS) who is
considered as a very challenging teacher in terms of giving performance tasks to her
students. She has been working as a public school teacher for more than three years,
but before that she worked as a full-time English as Secondary Language (ESL)
teacher at Best of Cebu English Academy Inc. She also became a part-time college
instructor at Sto. Tomas College - Danao for one year.
She gives her students an appropriate recognition and positive reinforcement by
means of telling them their positive attitudes. She is doing such things because she
believes that these can help them to strengthen such attitudes. She is not a type of
teacher who reveals those students who are not progressing in her class because for
her it is very confidential.
Her initial step to help her students to improve their academic skills/levels is to
personally talk to them about their likes and dislikes or even their interest. By means
of these, she may able to choose the appropriate strategies and techniques that may
hone or cater her students’ needs, interest, capacities, intelligence and diversities.
She said that all the students at DTDMIS are diverse, just like with the other
students in the other schools. She believes that it is best to motivate well the students
to do their school tasks. Learning can be enjoyable and effective as they are exposed to
different instructions and other teaching approaches. She pointed out, “In our school,
DTDMIS, we might able to make the students proficient with information and
communication technologies if there is a budget allotted to purchase the needed
educational technologies or equipment.
In terms of her personal life, she said that the kind of music that describes her
is K-pop because it suits her personality which is unique and extra-ordinary. Her
favorite bonding moment with her family is watching television program while they are
eating together. She also remarked that she is willing to sacrifice herself for her family
because she knows that they will do the same.
She is a unique and a skillful teacher who is also a strong and a hardworking
lady. She is beautiful and intelligent. She is Ms. Merra Mae Ramos.

4. The Inspirational Teacher
"A good teacher is a doctor who heals ignorance and artist who inspires
creativity. Teachers are like candle. They consume their self to light up the way of
others. They know how to bring out the best in students and they are the reason why
ordinary students dream to do extra ordinary."
Luckily we got a chance to interview one of the great teachers at D.T. Durano
Memorial Integrated School. He is Mr. Rusell Collamat who has a kind heart and a great
mind. He worked for one year in a private school before his two years of experience in
the public schools.
He stated, "Being a teacher is not easy facing with many students, but the smiles
and eagerness to learn, motivate me to do the best that I can in my job. Upon seeing
them smiling and actively participating in my class, I can say that all the efforts that I
have exerted are all paid of.” He measured his success as a teacher upon seeing the eyes
of his students with contentment and in the near future they will soon become
successful professionals who help our country to become a better place to live in.
The most challenging teaching experiences that he encountered are varying his
teaching methodologies, delivering his lesson and dealing with diverse attitudes of every
student. He deals with these experiences by asking technical assistance to the
administrator and attending seminars that are of great help for him to apply all the
things that he has learned in the field.
He believes that we should all enjoy life while we can because life is too short so
we must spent it wisely. This motto gives him the motivation to enjoy and appreciate
every little thing and blessing. It is such a great honor to interview someone like Mr.
Collama

6. The Unsophisticated Teacher
"A good teacher can inspire hope ignite the imagination and
instill a love of learning."
She is a strict teacher and a faithful wife. She chose teaching
because according to her, "Teaching is the best profession wherein
we are able to share/impart our knowledge to the students. They
can learn from us and we can learn from them.”
She wants a brighter future for her daughter and she always
miss her husband who is working abroad. She wants to have more
children for her daughter to have a companion, either a brother or a
sister whom she will be able to share her problems and
responsibilities in her family. She is willing to sacrifice her life for
the sake of her family because they are her strength, happiness,
inspiration and everything to move forward and to complete her life.
The most difficult experience that she had was when she
pursued her college days and to become a licensed teacher. The
biggest mistake that she had was when she did not follow the
advice of others and at the end she regretted.
She has closed friends who are also teachers here in our school
since according to her they are open-minded, approachable and
easy to mingle with. She builds a good relationship with open-
minded persons, socializes with other teachers and respects others
especially her fellow teachers. As a teacher and as an ordinary
individual, she advised, "Patience must be there always.” She has
been considered as our fairy godmother since we were in Grade 7.
Now, she is the adviser of Grade 7 St. Michael's students and she is
Mrs. Susette Tarucan.

7. The Successful Teacher
"Teachers who love teaching teach children to
love learning."
She is a kind and a loving teacher. She said that
rose is her favorite flower because it represents herself. She
wants eggplant that no matter how it will be cooked she
just like it. She likes reading novels, listening to music,
watching cartoons and Korean TV series.
She wants an ideal man who is neat, responsible,
loving, God-fearing and with a stable job. Her closest friend
among all the teachers in our school is Ms. Almie Batucan
because she is an outgoing, humorous and adventurous
person. The greatest accomplishment of her life is teaching
in the public school.
She is proud of herself because she learned to be
independent and she finished her studies as a working
student. By doing such, she thinks that it helps her to
become a successful person and to become who she is right
now. She believes that she needs to live her life to the
fullest. She is an optimistic and hardworking teacher. She
is also our former MAPEH teacher and she is Ms. Shiera
Lyn Chuatico
