Disciples of Jesus<br />“…Zeal for Thy house has consumed me…” (John 2:17)<br />A Manifesto for the Restoration of the New Testament Church<br />THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS,'MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD,MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT!'<br />Shake yourself from the dust, rise up, O captive Jerusalem;Loose yourself from the chains around your neck,O captive daughter of Zion.<br />The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a marriage proposal, and the New Covenant is a marriage covenant. Salvation and forgiveness of sin comes only through uniting with Christ in this New Covenant. We are saved by the grace of God through faith, but this faith is not merely believing in God or the facts of who Jesus is and what He did. Faith is primarily a personal commitment (marriage) to Christ.<br />The New Covenant which Christ purchased for His Bride (the Church) promises forgiveness of sin, a new heart and a new spirit, God's Holy Spirit living in us, personally knowing God, and eternal life. Repentance and faith sealed in baptism is God's ordained way of entering the New Covenant.<br />There is only one Church, though it gathers in many places. It is manifest quot;
where two or three [disciples of Jesus, saints, brethren] have gathered together in My name.quot;
The Church is the community of the saints. The assembly of the Church is the gathering together of the disciples of Jesus in His name. All who are in Christ are members of the Church and all who are not in Christ are not members. Any church that gathers on some other basis is not the Church of Jesus Christ.<br />The disciples of Jesus Christ are made evident to the world by our love one for another. Those who do not love the brethren have not been born again and are not part of the Church. The Church today is to demonstrate the same love for one another as the Church did after Pentecost.<br />The teachings of Jesus and the Apostles are the doctrine of the Church. We are not to add to nor take away from what the New Testament teaches. Neither Council, nor Pope, nor denomination, nor local church, nor any so-called apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor or teacher, can establish any doctrine, article of faith, or standard of fellowship other than that established by Jesus and His Apostles.<br />The example of the Church of Acts and the practices the Apostles established in the Church are still God's pattern for today. It was the practice of the Church to meet together on the first day of the week. The celebration of the Lord' Supper, often as part of a meal was apparently the centerpiece of their gathering. The saints met for the purpose of strengthening (edifying) one another and for fellowship. All were free to bring a teaching or a song, or to spiritually minister in love as the Spirit led, under the oversight of the elders.<br />We are to be careful to maintain the purity of the Church. Those who demonstrate through habitual action that they have not been born again are to be put out of the Church for three reasons: <br />For their own sake, that they may not continue in the delusion that they are saved, in hope that they may repent and truly turn to Christ.<br />For the sake of the purity of the Church and the welfare and unity of the brethren. <br />For the sake of the world, that the lost may not be deceived as to the nature of salvation and the grace of God in Christ.<br />Christ is the true head of the Church and the un-mediated head of every man. The Church is to be overseen (not lorded over) by faithful elders (plural), of good repute, leading by example, able to teach, full of the Spirit. And there are to be faithful deacons full of the Spirit and of good reputation to ensure the poor brethren are provided for. A professional clergy defrauds God's people of their rightful position as priests and ministers of God. All the members of the Body are ministers of Christ. The ministers of Christ ought to walk as Jesus walked. Those who show that they love the world and the things of the world are not ministers of Christ. Those that exalt themselves rather than exalting Christ are not ministers of Christ. Those that seek the approval of men rather than the approval of God are not ministers of Christ.<br />Gifts (manifestations) of the Spirit are given by the Spirit according to His will. It is the spresence of the Spirit in the life of the disciple, not the presences of 'gifts' of the Spairt that mark him or her as a child of God. The gifts of the Spirit are to be used to edify and not divide the Body. They are not a replacement for the Scriptures, nor a replacement for obedience and holiness. The teaching that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is separate from salvation or that it is always accompanied by quot;
tonguesquot;
was not taught by the Apostles. The Spirit may fill us many times and we may walk in different degrees of His fullness, but all who are in Christ have the Holy Spirit. The Spirit Himself is the promise of the New Covenant, not the gifts. Love exceeds all gifts and without love spiritual gifts are nothing. Love is the more excellent way (1 COr. 12:31) Spiritual gifts do not demonstrate true faith and the new creation, but God's love does.<br />All spiritual manifestations are to be carefully judged. Prophesy is not to be despised, but carefully tested; tongues are not to be forbidden, but their use carefully regulated. Tongues are supposed to be true languages, not babbling. Tongues are not to be spoken in the Church without interpretation (translation). Any spiritual manifestation that contradicts sound doctrine; brings disorder, confusion, or division among the brethren; leads into sensuality or worldliness rather than promoting holiness and pure devotion to Jesus; leads into self made religion, subjection to angels, or sever treatment of the body; or promotes perfection through law rather than through faith, hope, and love in Christ: is not a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. True spiritual gifts are good, but love is better. If you have gifts but no love - repent. If you have love but no gifts - rejoice.<br />The Holy Spirit exalts Christ Jesus and His Word. The Holy Spirit brings conviction of sin, righteousness, and judgment to the world. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and leads us into all truth. And the Holy Spirit can only be received by those who receive Christ.<br />Denominationalism is sin. It is listed in Gal 5:20 as one of the works of the flesh. Paul says those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Any dogmatic promotion of a doctrine beyond the clear teaching of Jesus and His Apostles, or promotion of a partisan spirit is a work of the flesh. We are to abide in Christ and His words are to abide in us. We are not to go beyond what is written and thereby sow division among the brethren. We are to be careful to maintain the unity of the Spirit, the unity of the faith, and the unity of the Church. quot;
There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.quot;
We are quot;
to contend for the gospel delivered once for all unto the saints,quot;
and not for anything else.<br />Offerings are taken for the support of the poor brethren. There is no evidence that the New Testament Church engaged in systematic works of benevolence beyond the community of Christ nor built church buildings. Jesus Himself set forth the principle that quot;
it is wrong to take bread from the children and give it to the puppies.quot;
The proper ministry of the Church to the world is the proclamation of salvation and eternal life in Jesus Christ. Those who take the offering of God' people and use it to build and maintain church buildings and programs rather than using it for the poor in the Church are robbing God. The building of buildings and the acquiring of property by the Church is sinful because: <br />It steals what belongs to the poor brethren. <br />It consumes the time, energy, and resources of the Church in doing and maintaining what Christ has not commanded at the expense of what He has commanded.<br />It distorts the Church by enabling a few quot;
to do the work of the ministryquot;
rather than the whole Body of Christ.<br />It promotes a false understanding of what the Church is, both among the brethren and among unbelievers.<br />It brings the brethren into bondage to the world through the need for money and into a dangerous and adulterous relationship with the government (incorporation and tax exempt status).<br />The need for money promotes the sin of showing favoritism to the wealthy and dishonoring the poor.<br />Buildings, property, and money have been the cause of much division among the brethren.<br />Because of property, membership in the church becomes a question of who is entitled to vote rather than who is in Christ.<br />That which depends on money is of the world. That which depends on the Spirit is of God.<br />Brothers and Sisters in Christ: What holds us back from truly following Jesus but our own unwillingness? Has God grown old? Has the New Covenant been repealed? Has God forgotten His promises? Or have we like Israel of old turned aside to walk in the futility of our own ways? The promised land of the New Covenant lies before us. We can return the Church to her blood bought purity, if we are willing to obey the Word and the Spirit. God will go before us and light the way. Let us not be as Israel at Kadesh Barnea and turn back in fear of what might lay ahead. Israel shrank back and therefore God was not pleased with them and all that generation save two perished in the wilderness.<br />quot;
I have given them Thy word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not ask Thee to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth. As Thou didst send Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth. I do not ask in behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be in Us; that the world may believe that Thou didst send Me. And the glory which Thou hast given Me I have given to them; that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them, and Thou in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, that the world may know that Thou didst send Me, and didst love them, even as Thou didst love Me.quot;
(John 17:14-23)<br />The unity that Jesus asked of the Father for us is not withheld from the Church because of the Father's unwillingness, but because of ours. If we will wholeheartedly commit ourselves unto Christ; if we are willing to lay down our man-made traditions and doctrines, committees, theologies, buildings, ministries, creeds, bulls, canons, statements of faith, denominations, titles, imaginations, seminaries, hobby-horses and pride; if we will humble ourselves and will be satisfied with the bread of Christ alone, His Word, His Spirit, His provision; then the Temple and true worship will be restored. Then the Church will be one. Then the prayer of our Lord will be answered. The thing is, all this is possible and it requires nothing but obedience and courage. This humbling of ourselves before the Lord for His sake would be the greatest act of worship we could perform! It is possible! It happened before! It is merely a return to the Church of Jerusalem after Pentecost.<br />Jesus said, quot;
whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.quot;
Therefore, let us forsake all that hinders us: our denominations, our man-made theologies, our traditions, our possessions, and our fears and pride, cleansing our hearts from the love of all these things --and taking up our cross; then we will find the life, truth, and unity that are in Christ Jesus. ' <br />Sacúdete del polvo, álzate, Oh cautiva de Jerusalén; Suéltate las cadenas alrededor de tu cuello, Oh hija prisionera de Zion. <br />El evangelio de Jesucristo es una propuesta matrimonial, y el Nuevo Convenio es un pacto matrimonial. La salvación y el perdón del pecado viene solamente por la unión con Cristo en este Nuevo Convenio. La gracia de Dios através de la fe nos salva, pero esta fe no es simplemente creer en Dios o en los hechos de quién es Jesús y de lo que él lo hizo. La fe es ante todo una comisión personal (unión) a Cristo.<br /> El nuevo pacto que Cristo compró para su novia (la iglesia) promete el perdón del pecado, un nuevo corazón y un nuevo espiritu, Dios el Espíritu Santo es quien ahora vive en nosotros, nos otorga personalmente Conocer a Dios, y nos da la vida eterna. El arrepentimiento y la fe confirmada en el bautismo es la manera que Dios ordenó para entrar en el nuevo pacto. <br />Hay solamente una iglesia, aunque se reúna en diferentes lugares. Está dicho: quot;
…en donde dos o tres [discípulos de Jesús, santos, hermanos] se han reunido en mi nombre.quot;
<br /> La iglesia es la comunidad de los santos. La asamblea de la iglesia es la reunión conjunta de los discípulos de Jesús en su nombre. Todos los que están en Cristo son los miembros de la iglesia y todos los que no están en Cristo no lo son. Cualquier otra iglesia que se reune en alguna otra base no es la iglesia del Jesucristo. <br />Los discípulos de Jesucristo se hicieron evidentes al mundo cuando demostraron su amor unos por otros. Los que no aman a los hermanos no han nacido otra vez y no son parte de la iglesia.La iglesia de hoy debe mostrar el mismo amor unos por otros que la iglesia demostró después del Pentecostes. <br />Las enseñanzas de Jesús y de los apóstoles son la doctrina de la iglesia. No debemos agregar a ella, ni quitar de lo que enseña el Nuevo Testamento. Ningún Concilio, ningún papa, ni denominación, ni la iglesia local, ni cualquier supuesto apóstol, profeta, evangelista, pastor o profesor, pueden establecer alguna doctrina, artículo de fe, o principio de comunión que no sea aquella que se ha establecido por Jesús y sus apóstoles. <br />El ejemplo de la Iglesia de los Hechos y las prácticas de los apóstoles establecidos en la iglesia siguen siendo el modelo de Dios para hoy. Era la práctica de la iglesia encontrarse juntos el primer día de la semana. Celebrar La Cena del Señor, como parte de una comida al parecer, era a menudo la pieza central de su reunión. Los santos se encontraban con el fin de consolidarse (edificarse) el uno al otro y para la comunión. Todos eran libres de traer una enseñanza o una canción, o de ministrar espiritualmente en amor según el Espiritu Santo les indicaba, bajo el cuidado de las ancianos.<br /> Debemos tener cuidado de mantener la pureza de la iglesia. Los que demuestran con su actitud habitual que no han nacido otra vez deben ser puestos fuera de la iglesia por tres razones:<br /> 1. Para su propio beneficio, es decir, que no puedan continuar en la falsa ilusión de que han sido salvos, con la esperanza de que puedan arrepentirse y convertirse de verdad a Cristo. <br />2. Por causa de la pureza de la iglesia y el bienestar y la unidad de los hermanos. <br />3. Por causa del mundo, esto es, que los perdidos no se puedan engañar en cuanto a la naturaleza de la salvación y la gracia de Dios en Cristo. <br />Cristo es la cabeza verdadera de la iglesia y la cabeza inmediata de cada hombre. La iglesia debe ser supervisada (no enseñoreada) por ancianos fieles (plural), de buena testimonio, dando el ejemplo, capaces de enseñar, llenos del espiritu. Deberán de ser diáconos fieles, llenos por completo del Espiritu Santo y de buena reputación para asegurar que a los hermanos pobres se les provea para su necesidad. Un clerigo profesional defrauda al pueblo de Dios(o congregación) de su posición legítima como sacerdotes y ministros de Dios. Todos los miembros del cuerpo son ministros de Cristo. Los ministros de Cristo deben caminar de acuerdo como caminó Jesús. Los que demuestran que aman el mundo y las cosas del mundo no son ministros de Cristo. Los que se exaltan asi mismo más que haber exaltado a Cristo no son ministros de Cristo. Los que buscan la aprobación de los hombres en lugar de la aprobación de Dios no son ministros de Cristo. <br />Los Dones(manifestaciones) del Espiritu son dados por el espiritu según su voluntad. Es la presencia del Espiritu en la vida del discípulo, no la presencia de los ‘dones’ del Espiritu lo que lo marca como hijo(a) de Dios. Los regalos del Espiritu deben ser utilizados para edifificar y no para dividir el cuerpo. No son un reemplazo de Las Escrituras, ni un sustituto para la obediencia y la santidad. La enseñanza de que el bautismo en el Espíritu Santo es aparte de la salvación o que es acompañado siempre por el quot;
el hablar en lenguasquot;
no fue enseñado por los apóstoles. El Espiritu puede llenarnos muchas veces y podemos caminar diversos grados de su plenitud, pero todos los que están en Cristo tienen el Espíritu Santo. El Espiritu mismo es la promesa del Nuevo Pacto, no los regalos. El amor excede todos los dones y sin amor los dones espirituales no son nada. El amor es el Camino más excelente (1Cor.12:31).Los dones espirituales no demuestran la verdadera fe y la nueva creación, pero el Amor de Dios, si lo hace.<br /> Todas las manifestaciones espirituales deben ser juzgadas cuidadosamente. La Profecia no debe de ser desdeñada, pero deberá ser probada cuidadosamente; las lenguas no deben ser prohibidas, pero su uso deberá ser regulado cuidadosamente. Las lenguas se supone deben ser idiomas verdaderos, no simple parloteo. Las lenguas no deben ser habladas en la iglesia sin la interpretación (traducción). Cualquier manifestación espiritual que contradiga la sana doctrina, traiga desorden, confusión o la división entre los hermanos; te conduzca a la sensualidad o a la mundanalidad en lugar de promover la santidad y la devoción pura a Jesús; te guie a la religión centrada en ti mismo, sometimiento a los ángeles, o al severo trato del cuerpo; o promueva la perfección por medio de la ley en lugar de la fe, la esperanza, y el amor en Cristo: no es una manifestación del Espíritu Santo. Los dones espirituales verdaderos son buenos, pero el Amor es lo mejor. Si usted tiene dones pero no tiene amor - arrepiéntase. Si usted tiene amor pero no tiene dones -regocijese. <br />El Espíritu Santo exalta a Jesúcristo y su palabra. El Espíritu Santo trae la convicción de pecado, de justicia y del juicio al mundo. El Espíritu Santo es el espiritu de verdad que nos lleva a toda la verdad. Y el Espíritu Santo puede ser recibido solamente por los que reciben a Cristo. <br />El Denominacionalismo es pecado. Se enumera en Galatas 5:20 como uno de las obras de la carne. Pablo dice que los que practiquen tales cosas no heredarán el reino de Dios. Cualquier promoción dogmática de una doctrina más allá de la enseñanza clara de Jesús y de sus apóstoles, o la proliferación de un partidismo hacia el espiritu es una obra de la carne. Debemos permanecer en Cristo y sus palabras deben permanecer en nosotros. No debemos ir más allá de lo que está escrito de modo que siembre división entre los hermanos. Debemos tener cuidado de mantener la unidad del espiritu, la unidad de la fe, y la unidad de la iglesia:<br /> quot;
… un cuerpo y un Espiritu, asi como también fuísteis llamados en una misma esperanza de vuestra vocación…un Señor, una fe, un bautismo, un Dios y Padre de todos, el cual está sobre todos, y por todos, y en todos..quot;
(Efe.4:-6).<br /> Somos llamados quot;
.. para contender por el evangelio una vez entregado a todos los santos..quot;
(Jud.1:3) y no para otra cosa. <br />Las ofrendas se toman para la ayuda de los hermanos pobres. No hay evidencia que la iglesia del Nuevo Testamento se dedicó a trabajos sistemáticos de benevolencia más allá de la comunidad de creyentes en Cristo, ni siquiera de la construcción de edificios de iglesia. Jesús mismo dispuso el principio que quot;
.. es incorrecto tomar el pan de los hijos y darlo a los perrillos...quot;
El ministerio apropiado de la iglesia al mundo: es la proclamación de la salvación y de la vida eterna en Jesucristo. Los que toman la ofrenda del pueblo de Dios y lo utilizan para construir y mantener edificios y programas de iglesia en lugar de usarlo para el cuidado de los pobres en la iglesia están robandole a Dios. La construcción de edificios y la adquisición de propiedades por la iglesia es una actitud pecaminosa porque: <br />1. Roba lo qué pertenece a los hermanos pobres. <br />2. Consume tiempo, dinero, esfuerzo, y los recursos de la iglesia para hacer y mantener lo qué Cristo no ha ordenado con el pretexto de que si lo ha ordenado. <br />3. Distorsiona a la iglesia al autorizar a unos cuantos para “la obra del ministerio” en lugar de hacerlo para todo el cuerpo de Cristo. <br />4. Promueve una comprensión falsa de lo que es la iglesia, tanto en los hermanos como entre los no creyentes. <br />5. Lleva a los hermanos a una esclavitud al mundo por la necesidad del dinero y a una relación peligrosa y adúltera con el gobierno (incorporación al estado extento de impuesto). <br />6. La necesidad del dinero promueve el pecado de manifestar favoritismo al rico y deshonrar a los pobres. <br />7. Los edificios, las propiedades y el dinero han sido la causa de mucha división entre los hermanos. <br />8. Por causa de la Propiedad, la membresia en la iglesia se convierte en una cuestión que te da derecho a votar en lugar de manifestar quién eres en Cristo. <br />El que depende del dinero es del mundo. El que depende del Espiritu es de Dios.Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo: ¿Qué nos mantiene fuera de un verdadero seguir a Jesús? No es nuestro propio desánimo? ¿Se ha envejecido el Señor? ¿Se ha abolido el Nuevo Pacto? ¿Dios ha olvidado sus promesas? ¿O somos como el Israel de antaño que nos hemos desviado para caminar en la futilidad de nuestras propios caminos? La Tierra Prometida del Nuevo Pacto se frustra delante de nosotros.Sin embargo,hoy podemos retornarle a la iglesia su pureza comprada con sangre, si estamos dispuestos a obedecer la palabra y al Espiritu Santo. Dios irá delante de nosotros y nos alumbrará el camino. No seamos como Israel en Kadesh Barnea y demos vuelta atrás por miedo a lo qué pudo haber estado por delante. Israel se volvió atrás, por tanto Dios no se agradó de ellos y toda aquella generación pereció en el desierto.<br /> quot;
… Les he dado tu palabra y el mundo los haaborrecido, porque no son del mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo. No ruego que los quites del mundo, sino que los guardes del mal. No son del mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo. Santificalos en tu verdad; Como tú me enviaste al mundo, yo también los he enviado al mundo.Y por ellos yo me santifico, para que ellos también sean santificados en la verdad.Mas no ruego sólo por éstos, sino también por los que han de creer en mí por la palabra de ellos, para que todos sean uno. Como tú, oh Padre, estás en mí y yo en ti, que también ellos estén en nosotros, para que el mundo crea que tú me enviaste. La gloria que me diste les he dado, para que sean uno, así como nosotros somos uno: yo en ellos, y tú en mí, para que sean perfeccionados en unidad, para que el mundo sepa que tú me enviaste, y que los amaste tal como me has amado a mí…”(Jn.17:14-23)<br />La unidad por la cual Jesús suplicaba al Padre por nosotros, no era debido al extasis de la iglesia, ni por causa del desanimo del Padre, sino debido al desgano nuestro. <br />Si nos comprometemos de todo corazón al Señor Jesucristo, si estamos dispuestos a despojarnos de nuestras tradiciones y doctrinas hechas por el hombre, comités, teologías, edificios, ministerios, credos, bulas, canones, estatutos de fe, denominaciones, títulos, imaginaciones, seminarios, entretenimientos y orgullo. <br />Si nos humillamos y si solamente nos satisfacemos con el pan de Cristo, su palabra, su espiritu, su disposición, entonces el Templo y la verdadera adoración serán restaurados.<br /> Entonces la iglesia será una. Entonces la oración de nuestro Señor será contestada. Asi que, todo esto es posible y solamente se requiere de obediencia y valor. ¡El humillarnos delante del Señor por su causa, esto seria el acto más grande de adoración que podríamos realizar! <br />¡Es posible! ¡Ya sucedió antes! Es simplemente un retornar a la Iglesia de Jerusalén después de Pentecostés.<br /> Jesús dijo: <br />quot;
Cualquiera de ustedes que no abandona todo lo que tenga no puede ser mi discipulo.quot;
<br />Por lo tanto, abandona todo lo que te obstruye: nuestras denominaciones, nuestras teologías hechas de hombre, nuestras tradiciones, nuestras posesiones, y nuestros miedos y orgullos, limpiemos nuestros corazones del amor a todas estas cosas ―y tomando nuestra cruz―entonces encontraremos la vida, la verdad, y la unidad que están en Cristo Jesús. ¡Es hora de que la novia se encuentre lista! <br />
