2. Among the many cultural offerings of North Carolina’s
largest city is the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, now in
its sixty-fifth season. I donated some time to the theatre in
high school and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
3. The 2012-2013 season features classics such as You’re a
Good Man, Charlie Brown, The Best Christmas Pageant
Ever, The Secret Garden, and The Red Badge of
Courage. Newer attractions include The Commedia
Pinocchio, magician Sammy Cortino, and Pinkalicious:
The Musical.
4. In addition to performances, the Children’s Theatre offers
instruction at various grade levels. Pre-kindergarten
through second graders can take part in creative
drama, which includes movement, and for older
students, characterization and vocabulary. Children in
second through twelfth grades can join workshops that
encourage individual expression and collaboration.
Grades three through twelve also can participate in the
School of Theatre Training for focused studies and
activities.
5. The theatre also supports the Taradiddle Players, a
touring company that has brought its art to over a million
children in the Southeast. Their program includes a
special tour for ages three to seven.
