2. North East Associated Colours
The North East Region has only 3 main cities which include Durham,
Newcastle and Sunderland. As these have the biggest population I am
going to focus more on appealing to these places specifically however it
will also help me to appeal and attract the entire region.
Before picking my magazine colour schemes, I thought it was important to
know what colours are associated with my potential target audience. I
have done this as I thought it would help me to represent the region
better and could potentially attract a wider audience around the region.
Although there are a lot of cities in the North East I have chosen only 3 to
research.
3. Sunderland
• Sunderland is linked to the colours red
and white due to the football strip and
also has a strong link with the colour
black due to the clubs nickname “THE
BLACK CATS.”
• I decided to search Sunderland in
google images and this was the result.
Majority of the images it had brought
up were red, white and black which
could be used to represent the
particular audience. There are also
slight hints of blue due to the
landmarks such as the Tyne River and
seaside locations.
4. Newcastle
• Newcastle is also associated with
the colours of its football club
which is predominantly black and
white. This is made evident
through the football logo and strip.
The logo also consists of secondary
colours such as blue and grey.
• When you do a similar image search
for Newcastle as Sunderland, the
key focus is on the river which
further suggests that blue is quite a
significant colour.
5. Durham
• The cricket logo for Durham is
blue, yellow and white.
• When you do a google search for
Durham, a lot of results come up
with the river, the cathedral and
scenery such as trees and
forests. This implies Durham has
a strong link to the outdoor
colours such as blues and greens.
6. Summary of Regional Colours
After doing this research I have found
these are the colours that are most
associated with the 3 major cities in the
North East. I couldn't’t use all of these
colours in my primary colour scheme as
that would be too overcrowded. Instead I
have decided to combine the most
frequent colours used to create an
overall regional colour scheme. As I have
already decided that black, white and
grey wil be used in my scheme, I only
need to decided between green, blue
and red. As green is less known for being
associated with the region this is the one
I will eliminate from my colour scheme.
