Let's agree about some basic facts:
- Using social media as a communication tool is not
the same as using it privately.
- It is not about you.
- It is about how to brand organisations and promote
activities over social media.

Have a plan
• Integrate social media into your overall communication and marketing
strategies
• Your social media activity needs a direction and a good management

• Match the right content to the right network

Know your audience
• It´s all about demographics
In general age, gender, locations and interests
• BUT how about creating your own community of followers?
• Who are they? How do you want them to be?

• Every social media has their own language.
• Be aware about the tone and code of conduct in each platform.
• Do not forget that you are still using them professionally.

Don’ts #1:
Don´t use generic marketing
• The first purpose of social media is NOT to sell but to socialise.
• Do not use your marketing texts in the social networks. It feels
impersonal and rude.

Don’ts #2:
Don’t try to hard
• Don´t be pushy or spammy
• If you do so, you will train your audience to ignore you.
• It is not about quantity but about quality.
• Too much information may cause that people lose interest.
• Relevant posting could get lost in the bunch
• Be careful with sharing things that might be in the pipeline

Don’ts #3:
Don’t neglect
• Customer satisfaction can break
or make a company.
• Do not underestimate the power of word-of-mouth advertising
• But keep it transparent, do not delete negative comments.

Don’ts #4:
Don’t be all over the place
• Don’t spread yourself too thin.
Pick one or two social networks and then do it great.
• Have a clear voice for your sharing and be consistent

Don’ts #5:
Don’t get frustrated
• Social media and networking takes tones of time and resources.
• It is fun but you need to be patient.
• Do not expect the red carpet to be waiting for you.
• BUT it is extremely rewarding…
