2. The Story… This book is about a Abenaki girl who experiences the Plains of Abraham in New France, 1759. Genevieve nurses the wounded soldiers at Hotel-Dieu. She writes in her diary every time something changes in her town. Especially when the British come and take the city of Quebec. When the French army comes to fight for their town back. Genevieve’s brother and his friend, Etienne join the French army to fight for their town. After they both come back to visit but then they have to fight again and then Chegual is the one who comes back wounded. Etienne (the one who Genevieve likes) dies. But later the wounded British solider Lieutenant Doig comes to Mme Claire’s home to recover, Genevieve and him becomes friends. Genevieve after a while adjusts to the changes in New France..Later she marries the British solider.

3. Characters Mademoiselle Genevieve Aubuchon- Genevieve is a native Abenaki girl. Her brother is Chegual. Her birth name is Miguen (that means feather). Her foster mother is Mme Claire. Abenaki is how the French say it, but it’s really called Alnanbal. Her main languages are Abenaki and French, and some English. She started to go to school with nuns at the age of about seven. Mme Claire- This is Genevieve’s foster mother. When the British come she refuses to leave their home. Mme Claire adopted Genevieve when she was about five. Chegual- Chegual is Genevieve’s older brother, He was given the name Joseph. He runs away with his friend Etienne to join the Abenaki people at St. Francis mission. Etienne L’Aubepine- Etienne is a Abenaki. Genevieve likes him…I think. Lieutenant Andrew Guillaume Gordon Doig- This guy is a wounded soldier with the British army and came to Mme Claire’s home to recover from his wounds.

4. My Opinion I like how the story was in a diary format. It made it more interesting. It really got into what she thought of everything and all her struggles with the changes in her country. It was very different to read from her point of view in the book. I think this book would be great for anyone who likes history.
