HeritageQuest Online database offers an incredible collection of census materials, local history books and indexes for genealogists. Given by the Prairie History Room, this presentation demonstrates how to use this incredible search tool.
Similar to Ancestry Library, you can print or save (download) your results. Remember to use the print button as opposed to the print feature under the file tab. There is a way for user to print off an enlarged view of the U.S. Census record. When you click on the print button, there will be instructions on how to “clip” an item from a PDF file. Note: the manual has been downloaded and printed off for you.

Note: unlike Ancestry Library Edition which offers a soundex search, HeritageQuest Online offers no such feature. If your ancestor’s name was misspelled, you will have to redo the search with the various spelling. FORGET TRUNCATION SYMBOLS!!! Neither “*” or “?” will be accepted in the surname search. You can also search census data by page number!

The Books collection available through HeritageQuest Online provides you with full-text access to over 25,000 family and local history books. When you search the Books collection in HeritageQuest Online, you are searching every word of every book, which allows you to find even passing references to people and places. There are four options available for searching books: There’s a People search form A Places search form You can Browse publications Or you can access an advanced Search Publications form
PERSI is produced in cooperation with the Allen County Public Library Foundation, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. One important thing to keep in mind about PERSI is that it doesn’t include full text articles. When you search PERSI you will retrieve citations to articles. If you want copies of the actual articles you will have to track those down through interlibrary loan or order them from the Allen County Public Library Foundation.
