Suitable for All
children are upset by different things, so it is sometimes
difficult to say what might upset a child. However, U films
should be suitable for audiences aged four years and
over. If there is any violence, threat or horror in a U film, it
should be over quickly and the film should tell children
that everything will turn out okay. Films and DVDs for
children should make clear to them the difference
between right and wrong.
3. Parental Guidance
Can be viewed by all ages, but some scenes
may be unsuitable for young children.
Children of any age may watch, with or without an
adult. A 'PG' film should not trouble or worry a child
aged eight or older. However the PG does tell
parents that the content of the film may upset
younger children.
4. These categories are awarded where the material
is suitable, in general, only for those aged 12 and over.
Works classified at these categories may upset children
under 12 or contain material which many parents will find
unsuitable for them. Can include some bad language and
violence.
5. No-one under 15 is allowed to see a ‘15’ film at the
cinema or buy/rent a ‘15’ rated DVD or video game.
Parents are warned that ‘15’ rated works are not
suitable for children under 15 years. Can include things
such as: strong verbal references to sex., sexual nudity
and brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references
to sexual violence
6. Not to been see by anyone younger than 18 years of
age, 18 rated movies are considered movies for adults
they contain, strong violence, strong language sexual
references and other things.
