3. Guiding Principles
• Nothing enters these spheres that is not directly
related to all the spheres surrounding it.
• Your thesis guides everything you write in your
essay.
• Your paragraphs action should build towards
your conclusion.
4. Paragraphs
• Always have a topic sentence (even if it is embedded).
• Always have examples or evidence linked to your
topic sentence (3 - 4) and analysis of that evidence
describing the link.
• Always end with a Hook (to link to the next
paragraph).
5. Format
• 12 pt Helvetica or Times New Roman font
• Header with Title & Page Numbers
• Top Right Corner: Name, Class, Period, Date
• Double spaced
• If it’s a 1000 word assignment, anything less than that, even by 1 word, is
penalized whole letter-grade down.
• Works Cited
6. Handing In Work
• Always Save & DON’T DELETE (Make an English Folder)
• If I assigned it for “that day”, it is due the moment class
begins, or it is late.
• Lost Work cannot be verified so it’s a zero.
• Late Work: Docked 70% for the 1st week, 50% after that.
