We will now put all of the skills we have learnt to
the test
We will view a short sequence from Saving
Private Ryan and analyse the use of
cinematography
You must identify:
• Shot types
• Camera Movements
• ‘Audience Positioning’
Your analysis must then explore how meaning is
created through the camera choices of the
director

Your work will be assessed using the following
criteria:
• Use of technical language
• Understanding of how SPECTATORS and the
Camera interact (how does the camera create /
reinforce / manipulate our responses)
• An awareness of how the individual reacts to the
text
