The roles and responsibilities of technology integration are linear, but may also be
circular in implementation. For example, there are times when curriculum
specialist will work directly with the campus technology master teacher or the
media specialist may provide direct instruction to the parents and students. The
chart may flow in a different order if needed. The role of the principal and assistant
principal is to lead by example as well as monitoring the implementation of the
organizational chart. The principal must be a good manager of allocating resources
through budgeting for technology infrastructure needs and staff development based
on the Campus Improvement Plan. The campus administrators should model the
use of technology for all stakeholders. The administrators of each campus should
monitor the results of the STaR chart data and teacher evaluation tools assure that
national, state, district, and campus goals are being met and to assure that their
students our 21st Century learners.

Below is a chart of the professional development that would help provide the
needed technology support based on the results of our school’s STaR Chart, our
district’s technology goals, our Campus Improvement Plan, and Texas Long
Range Plan for technology. Based on the data our infrastructure is supported,
but the area of concern was in Teaching and Learning, and Education and
Preparation. I felt it was most important for our staff to understand the areas of
need for our campus as well as their own personal needs. That is why it is
important to start with understanding the STaR Chart results. In the past, our
campus has just completed the chart and the results have never been shared. I
am not even sure that our administration even looks at the results since these
results have never been analyzed for our CIP or any other purpose. Allowing
teachers to work with this data in a PLC setting will allow them to have their
needs be more personally met. Together as a team they can create lessons to
integrate technology and then will have a buddy to team up with to support their
learning as well as that of their students. Assessing the success of each activity
will allow for better planning of needs in the future, with the STaR Chart for
2012 to be a good measure of the success of the implementation of these
activities. Although our district has supplied the support and external needs, the
needs of the teachers are not being met at this time. Integrating technology is an
area that needs support. Only one staff development day is planned each year to
support technology for teachers. This day is optional and not mandated by the
district. It appears that the teachers that our already integrating technology are
ones that participate. Therefore there is no new growth in this area. This plan
will allow for professional growth and support for all teachers during the year.
There would be weekly support through technology tips, monthly support
during web conferences or faculty meetings, and daily support if needed
through Technology Teaming. It will be important through all of this that the
administration models the use of technology and support teachers as they begin
to try new things. They must allow for teachers the chance to grow without the
fear of being judge should lesson not always be successful. As I discovered
through this class, teachers must meet the needs of the digital natives in their
classrooms and teachers must be given the support and resources to allow this
   goal to be achieved.

  • 4. EDLD 5352 Instructional Leadership: The Technology Link The roles and responsibilities of technology integration are linear, but may also be circular in implementation. For example, there are times when curriculum specialist will work directly with the campus technology master teacher or the media specialist may provide direct instruction to the parents and students. The chart may flow in a different order if needed. The role of the principal and assistant principal is to lead by example as well as monitoring the implementation of the organizational chart. The principal must be a good manager of allocating resources through budgeting for technology infrastructure needs and staff development based on the Campus Improvement Plan. The campus administrators should model the use of technology for all stakeholders. The administrators of each campus should monitor the results of the STaR chart data and teacher evaluation tools assure that national, state, district, and campus goals are being met and to assure that their students our 21st Century learners. Page 4 – Revised October 2009
  • 5. EDLD 5352 Instructional Leadership: The Technology Link Brenda Hill EDLD 5352 EA 1191 March 20, 2011 Below is a chart of the professional development that would help provide the needed technology support based on the results of our school’s STaR Chart, our district’s technology goals, our Campus Improvement Plan, and Texas Long Range Plan for technology. Based on the data our infrastructure is supported, but the area of concern was in Teaching and Learning, and Education and Preparation. I felt it was most important for our staff to understand the areas of need for our campus as well as their own personal needs. That is why it is important to start with understanding the STaR Chart results. In the past, our campus has just completed the chart and the results have never been shared. I am not even sure that our administration even looks at the results since these results have never been analyzed for our CIP or any other purpose. Allowing teachers to work with this data in a PLC setting will allow them to have their needs be more personally met. Together as a team they can create lessons to integrate technology and then will have a buddy to team up with to support their learning as well as that of their students. Assessing the success of each activity will allow for better planning of needs in the future, with the STaR Chart for 2012 to be a good measure of the success of the implementation of these activities. Although our district has supplied the support and external needs, the needs of the teachers are not being met at this time. Integrating technology is an area that needs support. Only one staff development day is planned each year to support technology for teachers. This day is optional and not mandated by the district. It appears that the teachers that our already integrating technology are ones that participate. Therefore there is no new growth in this area. This plan will allow for professional growth and support for all teachers during the year. There would be weekly support through technology tips, monthly support during web conferences or faculty meetings, and daily support if needed through Technology Teaming. It will be important through all of this that the administration models the use of technology and support teachers as they begin to try new things. They must allow for teachers the chance to grow without the fear of being judge should lesson not always be successful. As I discovered through this class, teachers must meet the needs of the digital natives in their classrooms and teachers must be given the support and resources to allow this goal to be achieved.
