2. As a business owner who is running his business from home, one of my
greatest weaknesses is staying productive on a consistent basis. Since I am
self-employed, everything is down to me.
The manner in which I use my time -whether or not it is judiciously well spent
is up to me. This has continued to kind of slow me down as i strive towards
my journey of success.
Thus, I have been able to make use of some productivity tips as well as some
productivity tools that i have started implementing in order to help me to be
productive on a consistent basis and achieve the kind of success I desire. This
is what this short report is all about.

What Were The Factors That Made It Difficult For Me To
Be Productive On A Consistent Basis?
 Lack Of Organisation
When I was starting out on my own I always wanted to do everything at once
which only meant that files on my system are located haphazardly and I spent

3. a good amount of time searching for files. The time I could have spent in
getting more done provided i had a better organized file.
 No Clear Goal
Some days I set a clear plan on what I intend to achieve and the next day I
leave the previous plan undone and i am doing a totally different thing.
 Distractions
I know you also must have experienced something similar to this before; here
is how I normally get distracted. I wake up in the morning to check my mail
and I find something captivating, a click which takes me to my browser page
from my browser page, I decide to check a few of my favorites sites on and on
like that. See the cycle? Before i can say Jack Robinson I would have spent
hours on just clicking around without getting any productive stuff done. These
neglected stuffs are stuffs that could improve the core of my business.
After going in circles about this, I was able to come up with the following
solution which i am going to write here as

Tip 1; A Working Enviroment

4. Here is what i did. In my house, I dedicated a space as my working space
which is out of bounds from every other person except me of course. Also,
within that space I added a desk which can contain my laptop plus some little
files as well as a comfortable chair even though this chair cannot completely
remove some niggling back aches that I still have occasionally.
However, it is better than the previous one I was using which gives me back
aches within my first 2 hours of work if i don’t at least take a walk.
Let me add this also that my working space within the house has adequate
natural lighting. I think this goes without saying that if you are making a space
within the house as your work space, in addition to the other factors such as
desk, and chair, your work space should also have adequate lighting.
Tip 2; My Organisation
I ensured that my desk is not cluttered at all this eliminates distraction of any
kind. All files are kept in the drawer at the end of every day.
I was able to clearly segment and label every file on my laptop according to
the purpose that i need them for. Also, instead of going through my inbox first
thing in the morning like i always do, i complete at least one productive task
before i do that now.

Tip 3; My Daily Schedule
Writing a report, an article, completing client projects (yes, i do get hired to
perform some writing projects), write a newsletter to my subscribers,
respond to them if they have any questions or concerns or feedbacks. Each or
a combination of this comes before any other task for the day.
Since i am not a superman - as a home business owner, I am the admin,
marketer, the customer support, the technician all rolled into one person - me.
So, apart from using all these as outlined above, I have also enlisted the use of

This handy tool can helps me limit the amount of time you spend on time-
wasting websites. Yes, i am human, sometimes I stray away. So this tool

6. becomes very helpful. This is a google chrome extension. If you are using
firefox as your main browser, you should try out the LeechBlock plug in.
2. Fiverr
Again, i am only human i can’t be a master of everything, thus I outsource
some of my tasks - especially graphics design on this wonderful website.
3. Evernote
This is a tool that helps me not to stray from my daily task. Here's how;
whenever I'm clicking through especially when I am doing research and I
stumble on a must read stuff, I Evernote it to read later. Saves me a bunch of
time and keeps me right on task.
4. Gmail Autoresponse
Check the labs tab inside your gmail settings, bam, you will be able to respond
automatically to any message sent to you. All you have to do is to load a pre-
response so that whenever you are sent a message, this pre-response is sent
out first which makes you look as someone who replies to email. Only that it is
now left to you to actually respond so that you wont spoil the good reputation
you are trying to build.
5. Rapportive

7. Sometimes I do cold calling or cold pitching, thus, I will need the correct email
address of those at the top of the companies I want to reach out to. Hence, I
install the rapportive add on.
Here’s the link to install it: https://rapportive.com/install . At the time of
writing this report, this tool only works with gmail. With the help of
Rapportive I can tell whether an email address is active or not.
Conclusion
Despite the fact that i have been able to organize myself a bit better than when
I got started, i still find myself straying sometimes. This tells you one thing, I
am not perfect and I still got to stick to my productivity schedule on a constant
basis in order to stay productive.
Thus, I urge you that you take my tips and tools and apply them to your
condition not at once but on a step by step basis so that gradually you can
always bring out the best in you.
