20. The White Card Game offers an engaging and entertaining way
to deliver training in CPCCOHS1001A - Work safely in the
construction industry.
Through a first person perspective the goal of the game is to
identify, control and report workplace hazards on a construction
site without getting injured or causing the death of workmates.
By creating a virtual experience of being on a building site, the
game offers real life challenges, problems and risks yet provides
a safe place in which to learn and explore.

36. SA Plant Operator Training – Lonsdale, SA
….adapted their Forklift delivery training into
mobile learning for marginalised and
disengaged learners.
They developed a ‘Forklift Pre-op
procedure’ resource which could
be viewed on a mobile phone.
They also used QR codes to
create a ‘learning trail’ over a real
forklift.

Many training organisations use a LMS…Moodle is one example and is the most commonly used one. It is used for holding content and learning activities, as well as communicating with learners. It is asynchronous.https://elearningsa.wikispaces.com/Moodle
Many also use a webinar platform…either as well, or instead of. It is synchronous….although recordings can become a resource and be viewed asynchronously.
Can show content egPowerpointCan talk with voice…or via textCan use video for a ‘face to face’ experienceCan ‘application share’ eg demonstrate https://elearningsa.wikispaces.com/webinar
And some just use the web-enhanced model. Which means it is classroom based, but integrates closely with the use of technology.
On top of these basics, there are a huge number of tools and technologies which can enhance teaching and learning. http://c4lpt.co.uk/top100tools/Short time-frames today, so let’s look at just a few….
YouTube videos can be an excellent way of providing engagement.(If your organisation has firewall issues with YouTube, try TeacherTube.) You can even use the bad ones!
…but do you know about YouTube EDU? YouTube EDU provides “access to a broad set of educational videos that range from academic lectures to inspirational speeches and everything in between. Go there for quick lessons from top teachers around the world, course lectures from top-class universities or inspiring videos to spark your imagination. http://www.youtube.com/education
On a related topic, did you know that you can customise online videos? This tool is called TubeChop…and it allows you to take only a specific section from a longer video…virtually ‘chopping it up’. This is really useful if you have found a fabulous video but only a small section of it is relevant for what you want. You can then embed that smaller version into your online course. http://www.tubechop.com/
With Blubbr you can actually create interactive quizzes out of existing YouTube videos. The user gets to watch a short section of the video then they are asked to answer a multiple-choice question related to the content, with instant feedback. It’s brilliant! http://www.blubbr.tv/Examples: https://www.blubbr.tv/game/index.php?game_id=3014&org=0https://www.blubbr.tv/game/index.php?game_id=3498&org=0
Want more than YouTube can offer…or maybe different kinds of videos? How about a link with 100 video sites on it! These are just a few but there are soooo many places to find really cool videos. If you say “I don’t have time to look”, then why not turn it into a Scavenger Hunt for your students, and send them on a quest to find the perfect video for your needs. http://www.accreditedonlinecolleges.com/blog/2012/100-video-sites-every-educator-should-bookmark-updated-for-2012/e?**NOTE: If time, share story about using a *bad* video as a learning resource…it can still be very useful!
Make your own videos! Better still….get your students to do it. perhaps to present their project or for an assessment. http://www.powtoon.com/
There are many online games which can be used to add a new element.http://articulate.demos.s3.amazonaws.com/broken_co-worker/story.html
This one is an interactive resource about having effective business meetings…..http://elearningexamples.com/creating-effective-meetings/
This one is a basic Safety Check and comes with a SafeWorkSA proof of completion which can be downloaded and printed out.http://203.147.178.216/safeworksa/EducationAndTraining/ActivitiesAndTests/SafetyCheck/default.asp
The White Card Game is a favourite. It offers an engaging and entertaining way to deliver training in the module - Work safely in the construction industry. There is lots of blood when hazards aren’t identified correctly and therefore students love it! It was developed in Victoria and is very aligned to the Australian construction industry.http://whitecardgame.com.au/
This is very similar and also comes from the TheHeartRescue Project. In this case it is based in a shopping mall and a passer-by is confronted with the situation and needs to make quick decisions. .http://www.heartrescuenow.com/sudden-cardiac-arrest-save-life.html
ImageChefcreates customisable graphics and images which can be downloaded to your computer, ready to add to emails, websites etc So next time you need to tell your students that their assignments are due, or that they have only 4 days left to get their work reports in, use an image!
FlipText is a site that allows you to 'flip' any text! Useful in emails for getting the attention of students, or adding to your online course just for something different. Anything non-boring means they are engaged!
What about some simple classroom activities?I created the puzzle using http://www.eclipsecrossword.com/
Offer learning in alternative formats, wherever possible.
Specifically for numeracy assistance, many educators use Kahn Academy to reinforce learning. As you can see it covers a large range of levels and you can embed the videos into your online course….or just send the link to students so they can watch them at home.http://www.khanacademy.org/
This is one of the best resources for a review of apps as it looks at a huge number of apps and ranks them against the Australian Core Skills Framework.http://www.vetpd.qld.gov.au/resources/pdf/love-apptually.pdf
Mobile Video Assessment Trial: http://scottdwyerblog.wordpress.com/This Emerging Technologies project is involving hospitality students. With the support of online lecturer facilitation, the students are uploading video evidence via a smartphone app, directly into to Moodle, using a plug-in which has been developed for the purpose.
