Situation at today and possible guideline for the
production of recyclable refrigerated cabinets, which
use renewable energy, in particular referring to
developing Country needs.
HEADING OF THE REPORT

ABSTRACT
A fundamental topic for a sustainable development of our
planet is certainly the necessity of a better exploitation of
the available food resources.
It is also known that in the developing Countries, in
particular in case of agriculture productions for local use,
the difficulties for generating and keeping the cold chain,
cause a spoilage of very high quantities of food, which are
basic for livelihood.
This is due to the shortage of electric energy, usually
produced through traditional sources (coal burning power
plants, fuel, and so on).

In consideration of this matter Mondial Group has fixed,
in cooperation with university research centers and
leading worldwide firms and in the course of its products
range renewal, a guideline for research and
development.
It aims to find solutions which can offer technological
innovations allowing the cold chain keeping by renewal
energies use, even in places where cold chain cannot be
maintained due to power lack, and the almost total
recycling of materials during the demolition of end-of-life
cabinets.

SITUATION AT TODAY (state of work)
The current available technology in the field of refrigerated
cabinets for commercial use reached a standard
inconceivable few years ago. In fact, thanks to several
research projects carried out by Companies like Mondial
Group, always careful to innovation and equipped with a
Research and Development Department, important goals
have been reached concerning:

• Reduction of power consumption, by choosing high-efficiency
compressors and motor fans, and led lights;
• Reduction of the environmental impact by using polyurethane
water or cyclopentane foams, in any case CFC and HCFC free.
• Increase of refrigeration efficiency and reduction of the
environmental impact by progressive giving fluorinated gasses up
and by using hydrocarbons;
• Passive door, that is more performing door insulation, by using
double glasses with gas argon, low-emission treatment and moist
safe film, which in many cases enable to break off the use if
defrosting heaters;
• Use of smart control systems which still further reduce the
consumption during nights or when cabinet is not used a lot;
• Reduction of the number of maintenance interventions, by using
maintenance-free condensers.

DEVELOPMENTS
Research goes on and is not satisfied with
the results obtained up today, in fact there
are research projects under way
concerning new materials and advanced
foaming technologic cycles, in order to
produce a new generation of high
efficiency refrigerated cabinets, with very
low environmental impact isothermal
structure.
For example, a starting off project concerns

Mondial Group project includes a
partnership with university research
institutes, and with producers of
polyurethane systems. Experimental
polyurethane systems will be prepared
using:
• Polyhydric alcohol obtained from
recycling sources;

Target is:
• Reduction of thermic conduction
and improvement of heat insulating
performances;
• Reduction of weight of the foam
inside the cabinets body;
• Reduction of cabinets energy

GUIDELINE SUGGESTED
BY MONDIAL GROUP
Unfortunatly the current technology is a
benefit of the countries belonging to the
richest part of the globe while it is still
less accessible by the remaining
countries.
Mondial Group’s challenge is to make
this technology available to the
developing countries , too.

• The produced energy is gathered in a dedicated accumulator and then employed
by d c and variable speed compressor which enables a “soft” start avoiding
massive absorption at the start – up.
• An electronic controller optimizes and reduces to the minimum the electrical
consumption.
• A very low GWP refrigerant gas is used.
• The expansion is effected in a cooling coil placed inside two eutectic plates which
create a thermic stabilizing mass in order to reduce the effects due to unstable
energy production.
• Maintenance free-condenser minimizes the interventions for cleaning and
simplifies them. It is made of iron pipe and wires, easily recyclable at the end of its
life.
• The insulation is guaranteed by polyurethane obtained from renewable sources ,
having a high thickness ( about mm 100) completely recyclable and disposable
due to the fact that it is produced by injection mould.
• s/s anti-corrosion metal sheet which the body and the lid are made of are
perfectly suitable to face all the different climate conditions and are separable and
recyclable when end of life occurs.
• Four sturdy and twined wheels permit an easy move of the refrigerated unit.
• The heavy duty hinges allow many lid opening and closing operations.

Alternatives for power production are possible.
It is possible to connect , for example, an electric generator
supporting temporary fall of photovoltaic panel power
production since its performance is influenced by the
weather conditions.

Conclusions:
It is possible to better exploit the available food resources.
A feasible way is to work on food conservation, even in case of
food stuff shortage avoiding in this way precious resources
wasting.
In order to reach this ambitious aim it is necessary to operate
on different fronts in a synergetic way.

Mondial Group, from its side, is willing to offer all its
know-how in the refrigeration design and production of
refrigerated units, doing her best in cutting the
production costs thanks to targeted investments in its
factories by using more and more efficient and
productive systems.
It is also important to keep close relationship with
Universities and R&D

Departments of components and innovative material
suppliers. This task is already an established fact for
Mondial Group. The companies who produce
production systems and energy accumulation will play
a very important role to realize all the possible devices
so that this project and other important ones will
become real.
