The thesis deals with the topic of color theory applied to the architecture of the Catalan city of Barcelona, and we therefore propose to "illustrate", in terms of architectural and visual communication, the dominant colors of the city.
With this in mind, I started with a brief historical cultural part analysing the roots of the city, and then concentrated on the elements that better represent its image, which is the work of the architect Antoni Gaudi.
Therefore, the first few chapters have to be considered as a starting point needed to understand the past. It is about color theory from "vision" of the world to experience the original cultural stratification, crossed by its principles adopted scrupulously in the context of the city of Barcelona . I tried to highlight "the potential of the vision, considered not only as a physiological process-perception of instinctual nature, but also as a cognitive action, intelligent, creative and critical" time to explore the dynamics that gave rise to the color representation of the city and later the architecture of the Catalan architect.
I wanted to focus my analysis on the work of Gaudi, primarily through a classification of the decoration of some of the most important works by making use, without being exhaustive, the methodology of the "PLR" (Project Logical of Relief), then concentrate on polychrome of the same from the point of view of the organization overall harmonic surfaces in the project. To do this, I decided to use the methodology of Johannes Itten's theory, as his contribution was particularly valuable for comparison in the field of design. Its models are also the most recent.
The series of drawings provides a starting point for thought on the theoretical methodology followed and for the comparison of the work of Gaudi with the Itten's system.
