Final practicum report
1. 1
INTRODUCTION
Architecture
The art and science of designing and erecting buildings which extends beyond theoretical knowledge. Basically, the
purpose of this training period is to learn practically about design and construction of various buildings which is quite
different from theoretical study .
Architecture is the will of epoch translated into space which was said by Mies Van der Rhoe on the 20th century. This
statement can also be said as “architecture is a practical art with the knowledge of the present time hence which makes
it very important for the students to have a practical knowledge as part of their curriculum.
Nowadays ,architecture is commercialized due to the lack of space so materialistic design and lighting is more
important than the form developing .Therefore respecting the economical structure is more important for designing and
Designing the space is only a small part of getting the space built. There are whole a lot of other steps before the
building is actually built which includes client dealing, municipal drawings, dealing with the employees(for the director
or CEO), labour dealing, material selecting and many more.
Practicum
This phase is stepping stone in the early stage of an architect. Being involved in an architectural firm, a student gains
the practical knowledge. The major reason of introducing office practice of minimum 90 days in the curriculum of
architecture course is to make a student perfect by implementing his/her theoretical knowledge into practice. It’s a fact
that one can gain “more knowledge gained by doing rather than by reading it”.
Prepared by:MANISHA K SAH
2. 2
Keeping all these facts in mind the major objectives of Practicum is to let the trainee architects know how to tackle the
practical design problems and all other problems associated. Practicum teaches the trainees how to get their drawings into
the final stage of building.
• Enables the architectural students to act as a professional architect.
• Helps the students to gain practical experiences working in the fields.
• Enables us to solve real life architectural problem in a better way.
• The Students gain knowledge about new materials and new techniques of constructions.
• Enables us to deal with different kinds of peoples
• Provides students with an in-depth knowledge of the formal functional activities of a participating organization
• Opportunity to understand informal organizational interrelationships.
• Practicum will increase a student’s sense of responsibility.
• develop skills and techniques directly applicable to their careers
• Will aid students in adjusting from college to full time employment.
• Motivate students to continue their education.
• Higher levels of academic performance.
• the opportunity to test their aptitude for a particular career before permanent commitments are made
• To understand the professional life
• The skills needed for the professional life
• The interpretation of the knowledge in the real work
• The working mechanism in the professional life
• Duties and responsibilities as a technical personal
• The value of time
• The understanding of the social issues
• Develop skills in the application of theory to practical work situations.

Is their requirement
According to the client requirements ,the above
ground floor plan is planned but the directioon of
janakpur is mistaken by client so the view of
building moves toward the bhitamod which is
noticed during site visit and so the whole building
position is changed as shown in right side. In the

The whole practicum experience has been a great experience. I personally feel
much confident about what I draw and deliver regarding my design works
compared to how I was at the beginning. Practicum polished my theoretical
knowledge and introduced me into the practical world. As an architect, it’s
necessary to know what you are designing and most importantly how you are
going to materialize your concept into reality. Being in the office environment
gave me the opportunity to understand practical side of my academic course along
with improvement in interpersonal skills.
These 5 month at PUMORI ENGINEERING SERVICES PVT.LTD has made me
realized the difference between theoretical and practical concept of Architecture
primarily in context of Nepal. This experience is surely going to be helpful for my
future works and my career in the field such that I can start my career with more
practical idea of how things are and probably contribute in giving a boost to the
field of Architecture.
