What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing the product?
1. What have you learned about
technologies from the process of
constructing the product?
2. Research & Planning
I used the computer, more
importantly the internet for the first
stages of my magazine production. In
order to carry out research for my
genre, I used Google. I also used
Microsoft PowerPoint to present my
findings from my genre and audience
research. Slideshare was also used in
order to present my PowerPoint
presentation and Prezi to display my
planning ideas.
By using these technologies, I think it
has made my product development
look more professional and creative,
as well as allowing my research to
become more interactive.
3. Photography
I used a Nikon Bridge
Camera to take my
photographs. This allowed
me to take high quality
pictures. The only
techniques I used on the
camera was applying flash
and face detection. This
ensured that the model’s face
was bright and never blurred
as the camera automatically
focuses on his/her face.
4. Photoshop
The construction of my magazine
was the first time for me using
Photoshop and I had to experiment
with the software beforehand. I also
used YouTube tutorials and a
workshop to help me experiment and
get used to the software. I tried to
keep everything simple and still look
professional. However, I did manage
to learn how to merge two different
pictures together to make it look like
one, remove and change the colour of
backgrounds and partially blur
images. These are all useful skills
that helped make my images seem
professional.
5. Microsoft Publisher
I have been using Publisher for years
now, so I was definitely comfortable
with using this software. Once the
images were all edited, I used
Publisher to construct my magazine,
adding mastheads and texts. Using
Publisher allowed me to present my
magazine pages clearly and
professionally. The reason I didn’t
continue using Photoshop to develop
my magazine was because I wasn’t
very confident with the software as I
was still a beginner. However, I think
Publisher has allowed me to express
my ideas onto the page without any
hesitations of lack of knowledge. Print-Screen of my use of Publisher.
6. Evaluation
I used many applications such as
Prezi, Powtoon, Voicethread,
Slideshare and YouTube to evaluate
my magazine, and finally, WikiSpace
to present my work collectively. I
found most of these applications and
processes easy to use, however, I
didn’t like Prezi so much as I didn’t
quite understand how to use it
correctly. I think all these
applications help to make my work
look more professional and
everything is clear and in order due to
them. They allowed my evaluations
to be interesting, interactive and
creative.
