Magic mushrooms grow naturally and have been ingested by humans for thousands of years. They have been used in religious ceremonies but nowadays, they’re ingested recreationally because of their hallucinogenic properties.
2. Main Ingredient in Magic Mushrooms
When psilocybin is ingested in
shrooms, it’s broken down to psilocin and
it makes its way to the brain where it
disrupts the reabsorption of serotonin
thereby increasing the amount of
serotonin – the brain’s chemical
messenger that carries signals between
brain cells. Psilocybin also has a similar
structure with serotonin which allows it
to bind to brain receptors and stimulate
the brain.
In general, these hallucinations are
enjoyable but because the drug alters
your sense of time, its effects may seem
longer than the actual 3 to 8 hours.
3. Magic Mushrooms Stimulate Creativity
Psilocybin also inhibits regular
brain connections and creates
new stable connections. This
amplifies your thought
processes. It also activates the
areas of the brain which are
associated with dreaming.
Emotional regions are also
stimulated which gives on the
sense of expanding
consciousness.
4. Magic Mushrooms Make You Spiritual
In a famous U.S. study, 36 participants ingested psilocybin and were observed in a
laboratory. They all agreed the experience is one of their lives’ most spiritually
significant events. Two months after taking psilocybin, 79% of the test subjects believe
they have higher levels of well-being and satisfaction. An interview with their friends
and relatives backed up these claims.
5. Magic Mushrooms Are Safe
Shrooms need to undergo more research but they are not considered clinically addictive. They also cause little toxicity
to the body’s organ systems. A U.K. study compared magic mushrooms to other recreational drugs and found out it
caused the least amount of damage both to the individual and the others.
Scientists agree the laws need to change about clinically testing psilocybin so that advanced research can be carried out to fully
understand the positive and negative of this magic fungus on people’s brain.
