2. Perpetua
This font is easy to read which makes it suitable for a
masthead. This is suitable for all audiences are there
aren’t really any connotations that come with such a
simple font.
Brush Script MT This font looks ‘posh’ which would be associated with
an middle to upper class social class for the audience.
It’s less clear to read therefore wouldn’t be appropriate
for a masthead.
French Script MT This type of font wouldn’t be suitable for an indie/rick
magazine as it can be seen as archaic and something
that isn’t associated with that genre.
Courier
This type of font would be more suitable for an indie
magazine as it’s simple and easy to read. Indie
magazines aren’t very excessive which would fit in
with the theme.
3. Couri
erBernard MT
Condensed
Mastheads usually use big fonts
as they suggest that the thing
the person is reading and they
grab attention easier than a
smaller font. Making the font
bolder also makes it seem more
important.
This would fit in for an indie
magazine as they are seen as
‘rebellious’ and ‘loud’ and big
and bold fonts betray that
message.
4. Lucinda Handwriting
Bradley Hand ITC
Script MT Bold
These are handwritten fonts
which personalise the magazine
and make it seem more personal
and human rather than just
looks like a computer. These
fonts look sophisticated and
clean.
These fonts aren't appropriate for
an indie magazine as an indie
magazine would follow the codes
and conventions of a blocky and
big font rather than these that
look soft.
5. LARGE
small
medium
The big font stands out the most
and shows that the information
written in it would that that is the
most important bit of information.
The smallest font doesn’t attract the
readers attention as much, this
would show that the information
written isn't as important and
therefore many readers would miss
it out.
6. Each colour has its own connotation and
meaning. For example red has
connotations to anger and danger and
blue is seen as tranquil and calming.
Complimentary colours should be used to
together as they contrast each other and
make the other stand out; appealing
more to the eye. Using two shades of the
same colour or two colours that are
similar isn’t good as they would blend
together and the reader wouldn’t be able
to differentiate the different sections
easily.
7. USING COLOURS
WRONG
These two colours don’t work well together
as they are too similar and also do not fit in
with my genre of indie music. The colours are
too bright and ‘girly’ as indie music is mainly
associated with men and darker colours such
as red and black which would represent
danger and rebellion as that is a common
theme in indie music. I want my magazine to
follow these conventions
Using the wrong font.
This type of font isn't appropriate for an
indie magazine as it can be seen as ‘too girly’
and bit for my target audience.
8. These are appropriate colours for
an indie magazine because the
red represents anger and
rebellion which is associated with
indie music. The black and red are
good because they keep the
branding together and don’t use
too many colours so it’s not too
much. The white writing contrasts
with the black background.
9. my own colour ideas
Red and black would be good potential colours as I
feel like they represent the genre well.
Blue would also be a good colour because it
would attract a mainly male audience which
is my target audience.
Black and white is simple and doesn’t really
have any connotations to a single group of
people and would widen my target
audience.
