This document provides an overview of a 3-month course on famous 20th century artists involved in surrealism and early modernism. The course will focus on the Spanish artists Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Joan Miro, examining how their Spanish culture and training periods abroad influenced their works. Students will analyze artworks in their historical and cultural contexts, learn about key art movements and ideas, and complete a final project, midterm exam, and final exam assessing their knowledge.

6. During the next three months we’ll run through the world of Art from the beginning of the 20 th Century to the first avantgard movements. We’ll focus on three Spanish artists involved in the entrance of Art in the contemporary era: Pablo Picasso Salvador Dalí Joan Miró.
7. We’ll see how the Spanish culture and their evolution and training periods abroad are expressed in their works. In order to understand all this, we’ll talk of different art movements and philosophical ideas and we’ll learn how to find these influences in their works. We will learn to analyze works of art locatting them atl the historical and cultural context.

11. WHAT WILL THE EXAMS BE LIKE? Both exams will consist on two parts with the same grading: Part I Multiple choice questions: there will be 3 options and only 1 correct. The midterm exam will consist on 25 questions y the final exam 50. Part II Analysis of 2 works previously commented in class. 4 pictures will be given and the student will choose 2 which they will have to comment in 1 page (1 side per work). To be valued: -Focusing on relevant information. -Expressing correctly. -Ability to synthesize.

14. 6. The following will be valued: Critical thought and discernment. Ability to synthesize. Ability to interrelate ideas belonging to different fields. Originality. Clear and accurate writing. Bibliography, webgraphy and visual resources. Formal characteristics. 1. The work must have a front cover with the title, name of the subject, year, name of the student and name of the professor. 2. You can use either Arial (11) or Times New Roman (12). 3. Spacing: 1.5. 4. The length of the writing work is a minimum of 10 pages and a maximum of 20. Front cover, pictures , index and bibliography are not included.
15. 5. The bibliography and webgraphy must be attached in an appendix (Appendix I). 6. The pictures must be attached in a different appendix (Appendix II). The pictures of paintings must include title, author and year. The photographs must include a brief text and the year. 7. The work must be accurate and argued with relevant bibliography. 8. The bibliography quotes will be presented as footnotes. 9. The final project must be handed in both in printed version and pdf the same day of the presentation. The document of the work presentation must be handed in with the writing work.
