now had more than 160,000 miles of railroad track.
Also, because so many people and businesses relied on the
railroad companies to travel and move supplies, these companies
became one of the nation’s first large corporations.
By providing links between cities, farms, factories, and mines
across the United States, railroads helped the United States
economy grow.
Also, “Big Business” encouraged the US government to continue
an open immigration policy in order to help their
businesses to become even larger.
