2. OBJECTIVES:
• Explain what mycobacteriophages are and why
are they important.
• Distinguish between bacteriophage lytic and
lysogenic cycles.

3. MYCOBACTERIOPHAGES
• Viruses that infect bacteria belonging to the
mycobacteria genus.
• Can be found in the environment, including soil.
• Can cause diseases
• Are used as a model to study biological process

• Mycobactheriophage can be group according to
their life styles.
• Two different life cycle:
a) Lytic cycle
b) Lysogenic cycle

6. Lytic Cycle
 Used by virulent phages
 Is characterized by phage
reproduction followed by host
cell lysis.
