The Jed Foundation was established in 2000 by Phil and Donna Satow after their son Jed, a University of Arizona sophomore, died by suicide in 1998. The Foundation works to prevent suicide and promote emotional health among college students. It provides resources and training to help colleges address the mental health issues often associated with student suicide, such as depression and anxiety. The Satows recognized the lack of support for students struggling with these challenges after losing their son and have since helped shape how colleges approach student mental health.
