Unlike the previous games in the series, Laras environment is now much
more realistic and interactive. Footprints will be left in mud, for example,

rain-soaked ledge. When the sun comes out, her shirt will dry and the
slippery surfaces regain their friction. In Underworld, Lara also has a lot
more flexibility in how she makes her way through a level, as there is often
more than one way to get from here to there. She can now climb walls with
texture and rocky outcroppings to reach areas she previously wouldnt have
been able to access. All of these additions have been made to give the
game a non-linear, open feel. Players can interactive with the environment
by doing things they find to be intuitive, and the game will respond in an
appropriate way. When Lara interacts with trees, for example, she will
push aside leaves using either one or two hands depending on whether or
not shes holding something. These details give a lifelike, immersive
sensation to the game. New Melee Combat System
Underworld introduces a new melee combat system that requires players
to strategically strike with offensive, defensive, and evasive maneuvers.
Lara can now attack enemies with different punches, kicks, knees, and
other acrobatic onslaughts. Items lying on the ground, such as poles that
were previously walked on, can be picked up and swung at enemies.
Players can also perform a greater variety of actions with weapons; for
example, Lara can now hold onto a ledge with one hand and fire a gun
with the other. Realistic Enemy and Animal AI
The AI in Tomb Raider: Underworld has also taken a big step forward--
both enemies and animals now make independent decisions based on
their surroundings, employ ambush and squad tactics when fighting, and
will retreat if deemed necessary.
With updated graphics and a more immersive and realistic gameplay,
Tomb Raider: Underworld will have both fans and newcomers excited
about the newest installment in this popular video game-pinup franchise.

Personal Review: Tomb Raider: Underworld
Ive been a light gamer, PS3, since Xmas 2007. I have mastered Legend,
played Anniversary up to the dual-centaurs. Cant get the adrenalin head
shots thing to save my life. Still trying, and the thrill when I finally do them
in will be stupendous. I am a part time gamer. Hour here, hour there.
I have tried other games like the recent Spider Man series, Grand Theft
series, car races, Ninja, and shooters of the SciFi variety alla Star Wars.
None of them have kept my interest. So I rate Tomb Raider and especially
Underworld very high for sci-fi mystery loving people like myself whose
goal is escapism, where mayhem is incidental, and intrigue is everything.
Yes, there are some visual flaws. However, there are no crashes, and Ive
played too many top games that if you do something, who knows what,
down it goes. (To be fair might be PS2 simulator issues omn my PS3. )
The best thing about Underworld is that IEDOS has merged all of the skills
introduced in its Legend and Anniversary games into Underworld. The
importance is crucial. If you are new to Tomb Raider and have a PS3,
dont start with Underworld, play the Legend and Anniversary first. Each
version has grown, and I think you be disappointed if you go in the wrong
order.
One person has commented about the dizzying heights, frequent falls, and
camera angles as a con. I see them as great, makes my heart thump, just
like quiet scenes that suddenly burst into action with attacking beasts of all
kinds.
Last point, the videos Ive seen on Drakes World look like the same kind of
grown up quality story-line, puzzle solving, and graphics Ive come to love
in Tomb Raider. So when Lauras spent I will probably try my dollars on
Drake next. Hes not much to look at, but that female side-kick is nice
enough.
