4. FIRST SATELLITES

5. Sputnik I , the first artificial satellite launched from USSR , exited Earth’s orbit on October 4 th , 1957 .

6. Can you imagine? Sputnik I was about the size of a beach ball !

7. Shortly after Sputnik I, people had sent other satellites to space.

8. ANIIMALS IN SPACE

9. After the first satellites, the first living creatures were sent to space!

10. WHO?

11. All dogs in space were sent from USSR

12. In total, there were 13 dogs in space.

13. The first dog in space was called LAIKA .

14. Unfortunately, Laika died during the flight of over heat.

15. All the monkeys and chimps were sent from USA .

16. The first monkey in space was named ABLE .

17. FIRST PEOPLE IN SPACE

18. On 12 April 1961 , YURY GAGARIN became the 1 st man in space .

19. Neil Armstrong was the 1 st man that landed on the moon on July 20, 1969

20. SHUTTLES AND BURANS

21. Shuttle is a spacecraft built by NASA.

22. There are 6 Shuttles: Enterprise , Columbia , Challenger , Discovery , Atlantis and Endeavor .

23. Columbia was the 1 st space shuttle to be launched into space on April 12 th , 1981

24. Christa McAuliffe was supposed to be the 1 st civilian in space and leave into space on Challenger , January 28, 1986

25. Challenger exploded due to some technical problems, killing all the members of the crew .

26. Buran was the Soviet spacecraft, similar to Shuttles, but not indentical.

27. Buran made only 1 flight on autopilot . Due to financial problems, it was never launched again .
