2. Working title:
Frequency of publication: monthly
I have chosen to publish the magazine monthly as I found from my research that my target audience of young people, like
myself, are not regular magazine buyers so it would be unrealistic to think that they would commit to buying a magazine every
week.
Cover Price: £3.99
I am charging £3.99 per issue as they will only be published monthly so I feel as I am able to charge a slightly higher price as the
magazine will contain more content than a magazine that is published weekly. The target social demographic for my magazine
is ABC1 and C2 (mainly B/C1) and my target audience focuses mainly on students which means that their head of house is able
to afford to send them through higher education and therefore will have some disposable income.
3.
My research provided me with very varied results regarding music genre.
In order to appeal to the widest possible audience, I have decided that my
magazine will not be focused on just one particular genre of music and instead
will feature a wide variety of artists and content. This is similar to magazines
such as Mojo and Q, however these magazines are aimed at a slightly older
audience to the one in which I am focusing on. I discovered that there was a
gap in the market for a magazine that features a variety of genres and artists
but is targeted at a younger audience. I aim to create that magazine.
4. Colour Scheme:
My colour scheme is going to be consistent throughout the magazine and will focus on the colours Orange Black and
I have chosen these colours as I feel that they compliment each other and will stand out on a magazine stand.
Style:
I have decided to make the style quite simple yet effective as I feel that covers with too much going on aren’t as visually
appealing. A simplistic style is also more likely to appeal to readers at the older end of my target age range. This means that
inspiration for the layout of my magazine will be taken from magazines such as NME or Q rather than Kerrang. I would like the
main image to be the main focus of my cover and make sure that there is a variety of images throughout my magazine as I feel
that images are effective in breaking up the text.As well as the colour scheme, I would like the layout of my magazine to be as
consistent as possible in order to give a sense of cohesion. I have collected a few examples of existing covers that have a layout
similar to the simplistic style that I would like to create.
White.
5. Artists Featured:
Due to the fact that my magazine is going to incorporate a wide range of genres, I will feature a wide range or artists and bands.
Possible artists featured in interviews or articles could include
Mumford and Sons
Beyonce
Miles Kane
30 Seconds to Mars
Lady Gaga
Catfish and the Bottlemen
Calvin Harris
6. Advice column
The advice column will stray from the usual column featured in magazines, instead this will focus on providing the reader with
advice on how to have the best weekend possible, for example featuring new club openings or events all over the UK or artists
or music that would be good to listen to at parties etc.
Reviews
The magazine will feature a variety of reviews from album to gigs and possibly even reviews about nightclubs.
Interviews
The magazine will feature interviews with high profile artists but also new, upcoming artists that have just broken into the
music industry.
Competitions/Giveaways
Each issue will feature either a competition or giveaway in order to give readers something back for purchasing the magazine, it
may also encourage readers to purchase in the first place as they feel as if they are gaining something more than just a
magazine.

I have chosen these fonts to
compliment the simplistic

I have chosen Lemon Milk as my masthead font as it is cleat and
easy to read and is simplistic which is the style I am going for
with my layout.
