Question 7
1. Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full
product?
2. QUALITY OF PLANNING AND
ORGANISATION
• During the initial stages of filming we
forgot to book a camera, but we took
initiative and borrowed a friend’s camera,
but I think our overall organization could
have been better.
• Although we did not create a specific
schedule, we planned which shots we
were going to shoot in advance so we
would know what actors to use.
3. QUALITY OF EDITING
• I think that the quality of editing could have
improved so that there was a more fast-cut
rhythm of shots to reflect the uplifting
mood of the film.
• I think that we could have made it more
clear that the film was a romantic comedy
by editing in sparkles which connote
femininity, as seen in ‘Legally Blonde’.
4. QUALITY OF SOUND
• Our music was well suited to the film as it
was upbeat and uplifting, and was similar
to music in other romantic comedies we
had researched. I am disappointed with
the choice we made to use background
noises for example background
conversations, as they distracted from the
narrative and didn’t fit the conventions of
other rom-coms.
5. QUALITY OF ACTORS AND
DIRECTING
• We found actors who were all experienced with
academic drama training (Emma, Zoe, Franklin) or
who have previously been in multiple shows
(Maddy).
• The quality of directing was very professional. For
instance, at Southbank, in the last medium close-
up we could see the reflection of the camera,
however when we went back to the location to
reshoot the sign in the background had changed
so we would lose the continuity and it would be
evident that the events hadn’t occurred on the
same day.
6. QUALITY OF CAMERA SHOTS
• The weather conditions made it difficult to
shoot as we had to physically hold the
camera still as there was a lot of wind, but
this only effected one shot. The tripod
useful for having the camera completely
still so the majority of our shots were shot
without any unessescery camera
movement.
7. QUALITY OF MISE-EN-SCENE
• If I could change the mise-en-scene now I
would because when looking back at my
rom-com research I noticed the costumes
were more brightly coloured, for example
in Mean Girls, all characters including the
protagonist are wearing brightly coloured
clothes. In our film the colours of the
clothing are more bland, for example Beth
is wearing a brown coat, which might be
suited to other genres such as horror
