Sobre
A former Broadway performer, noted humanitarian Lois Pope sang at a benefit at the Rusk Rehabilitation Center in New York City where she interacted with military veterans coping with disabilities. The event left a strong impression on her, and she promised to find some way to honor them for their service and sacrifices. This has been translated into recognizing former soldiers who have lost limbs in battle with the Unsung Hero Award. Lois Pope also has spearheaded the $85 million fundraising campaign to construct the nationâs first and only memorial site dedicated to honoring the more than 3 million disabled veterans and the countless thousands who have died.
