command, Power Systems, Communication sub systems, description of communication systems,

Multiple access systems: FDMA, FDM/FM/FDMA, TDMA, CDMA spread spectrum transmission and
reception. Applicability of CDMA to commercial systems; demand access in the INTELSAT. TDMA
system, SPADE, the INMARSAT system.

Introduction to remote sensing: Acquisition of multi spectral images from space-borne platforms,
visual range, IR bands, Types of sensors, Data from ERS and other satellites, Data resolution, band
width requirement for various themes, Data formats.
Processing of data: Rectification and classification, edge extraction, spatial and wave number
domain filtering, estimation of band ratio, principal component analysis. Normalized Difference
Vegetation Index, histogram equalization, density slicing, linear feature extraction. Thematic
application: application of remote sensing in the field of ground water exploration, identification of
surface feature, drainage pattern and catchment delineation, identification of structural patterns
and thermal spots from IR bands. Delineation of coastal features, study of ocean waves from ERS

4. Address: HA and FA
5. Flip-flops: SR, D, JK and T Flip-Flops
6. Counters: 4-bit binary counter, 4-bit BCD counter, U/D counter with loadable count.
7. 8-bit shift register
8. Test bench for a full adder
9. 32-bit ALU design using combinational logic to calculate output based on 4-bit opcode. Pass
the result to out bus when enable is high and tristate the out bus when enable line is low.
PART-B: Interfacing
1. Waveform generation using DAC
2. Displaying messages on 7-segment display and LCD panel from HEX key pad.
3. Input 8-channel analog signal and display data on 7-segment display and LCD PANEL.
4. Speed control of DC motor and stepper motor
5. Simulation of elevator operations
(Note: Programming is done using any VHDL / Verilog compiler. Download the programs on a
FPGA/CPLD development board to test the design).

Combinational circuit designs: a) 2 to 4 decoder b) 8 to 3 line encoder c) 4 bit binary to gray code converter d) 8:1 MUX e) 1:8 D’MUX f) Comparator 3. Parity generator 4. Address: HA and FA 5.
