The United Nations
proclaimed 21 June as
the International Day of
Yoga.
Yoga is an ancient
physical, mental and
spiritual practice that
originated in India.
The word ‘yoga’ derives
from Sanskrit and
means to join or to
unite, symbolizing
the union of body and
consciousness.
Today it is practiced in
various forms around
the world and continues
to grow in popularity.
Recognizing its
universal appeal, on
11 December 2014,
the United Nations
proclaimed 21 June as
International Yoga Day
by resolution 69/131.
International Yoga Day
aims to raise awareness
worldwide of the many
benefits of practicing
yoga.
The draft resolution
establishing the
International Day of
Yoga was proposed by
India and endorsed by
a record 175 member
states. The proposal
was first introduced by
Prime Minister Narendra
Modi in his address
during the opening of
the 69th session of the
International
Day of Yoga
General Assembly, in
which he said: “Yoga is
an invaluable gift from
our ancient tradition.
Yoga embodies unity
of mind and body,
thought and action … a
holistic approach [that]
is valuable to our health
and our well-being. Yoga
is not just about exercise;
it is a way to discover the
sense of oneness with
yourself, the world and
the nature.”
The resolution notes “the
importanceofindividuals
and populations making
healthier choices and
following lifestyle
patterns that foster
good health.” In this
regard, the World
Health Organization
has also urged its
member states to help
their citizens reduce
physical inactivity,
which is among the top
ten leading causes of
death worldwide, and a
key risk factor for non-
communicable diseases,
such as cardiovascular
diseases, cancer and
diabetes.

Transdisciplinary Annual
Research Summit
(STARSummit:2015) from
29th June to 11th July
2015 at Saveetha Dental
College,Poonnamalle.
The STAR summit spans
over a period of 12 days.
1400 research projects of
undergraduate students
will be showcased,
among them 53 papers
have been accepted
to be published for the
month of May. STAR
summit will have 4 days
dedicated exclusively for
basic medical sciences,
two days for preclinical
research work and six
days for clinical research.
What other place would
be more apt to display
these projects than the
library where the thinking
caps go on the student’s
brains. The students’
work will be reviewed
and appraised by other
students, their peers from
other colleges and also
from eminent faculties
in each fraternity. Gone
are the days where a
research has to percolate
through many barriers
to reach their pedestal,
Saveetha offering a
priceless platform for
students to reach out
and extend arms to the
scientific globe around us.
As quoted by Dr. Deepak
Nallasamy, Director of
Academics, Saveetha
University “Igniting
passion for research is
the responsibility of an
institution.
We at Saveetha take this
responsibility serious to
empower our students
to have all the required
professional skills”
Research with a mind

towards diagnosis and
therapeutics forms a
pivot for the evolution
and enhancement of
the health care front.
Synchronizing with this
thought, Saveetha Dental
College has embarked
on a research platform
which is the first of
its kind amongst any
educational institution in
India. Our UG curriculum
is designed and tailored
so as to motivate the
budding scholars of
our institution to re-
search with endurance
and perseverance. A
systematic protocol with
regular documentation
and monitoring enables
the student to achieve
their target. Saveetha
Transdisciplinary Annual
Research Summit
(STARSummit) has
evolved as an arena to
present the elaborate
research work done by
the young minds.
This academic
deliberation spans over
a period of 12 days and
will comprise of research
work across all disciplines
of dentistry including basic
medical sciences. Apart
from providing a platform
to present their research,
STARSummit also
gives an opportunity for
the students to hone
their analytical skills,
defend their work and
appraise other works.
Synchronizing the
teaching curriculum
with research right
from the undergraduate
level enables our
students to have an
edge over others in this
competitive scenario
with the STARSummit
being the stepping stone
for achieving greater
heights.

India is a land of diverse
cultures, the more we discover
the more we are in awe of its
beauty! Northeast India is
one such part of the Indian
subcontinent that houses
an enormous amount of
beauty. While the natural
beauty of this region
can be explored only
through travelling,
the fashion, food
and artifacts
aren’t that far
anymore! In
fact, in a bid
to bring the
Northeast closer
to you, a group
of individuals
today launched
an online
p l a t f o r m
called giskaa.
com where
you can buy
products from
all the eight
Northeastern
States –
A r u n a c h a l
P r a d e s h ,
A s s a m ,
M a n i p u r ,
M e g h a l a y a ,
M i z o r a m ,
N a g a l a n d ,
Sikkim and
Tripura.
For people who
haven’tbeentothenortheastof
India but are curious to know
about the culture, GISKAA is
like a goldmine. www.giskaa.
com is an exclusive online
marketplace for products
sourced exclusively from
the Northeast. It is also a
platform for artisans from the
Northeast to professionally
showcase their products and
promote them among a large
mainstream Indian audience.
The majority of the products
are handmade and eco-
friendly items around
fashion, home décor and
office accessories which are
exclusively available only
on giskaa.com. Products
like, kids clothing fabric,
handmade footwear, baskets,
tableware and others at a very
reasonable cost. The online
marketplace also includes a
range of exciting ethnic food
beverage items from the region
including mouth-watering
pickles, dried vegetables,
herbs and spices that are only
available on giskaa.com.
Speaking on the occasion,
the co-founder and CEO of
GISKAA, Meghanath Singh
said, “It gives me immense
pleasure to announce the
launch of www.giskaa.com,
through which the audience
of the larger Indian Diaspora
will be able to connect and
apprehend the rich and
varied cultural and traditional
heritage the Northeast has to
offer.” He further added that
“Northeast India remains
largely unexplored especially
by people who don’t belong
to any of the eight states –
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam,
Meghalaya, Mizoram,
Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura
and Sikkim. It is perhaps the
geographical location of the
Northeast that isolates it from
the rest of the country. As
such, many remain unaware
of the rich Northeast culture
and heritage. It was possibly
this thought and the want
to integrate the Northeast
into the mainstream Indian
culture that led us to come
up with a platform called
GISKAA, an online store.”
About giskaa.com:
giskaa.com today is the largest
online store for products from
the Northeast Region (NER)
covering all the 8 Northeast
states of Assam, Nagaland,
Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal
Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim
and Tripura. Driven by the
vision of making Northeast
artisans and their unique
products accessible to the
rest of India, the team has
managed to implement a
large-scale network of artisans
and product suppliers in the
region making GISKAA the
largest organized network of
Northeast artisans.
GISKAA (pronounced /
dskaa/) is an acronym formed
by taking the first letter of the
names of the capitals for each
of the 8 Northeastern states:
G – Guwahati/Gangtok I –
Imphal/Itanagar S – Shillong
K – Kohima A – Agartala A –
Aizwal. The mission of GISKAA
is to bring the Northeast closer
to you, whether it's your home
or a land that you've yearned
to experience. The GISKAA
team works closely with
even the remotest of artisans
in the hills and villages
building a trusted circle of
partners with an objective to
deliver a sustainable means
of livelihood for them and
generating employment in the
region through GISKAA.

Aircel subscribers in Tamil Nadu,
Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala,
Telangana and Puducherry will not be
charged for incoming calls while they
are travelling within these states, a
senior official said on Wednesday.
As 40 percent of the mobile phone
subscribers who have roaming facility
do not answer incoming calls while
travelling fearing roaming charges,
Aircel aims to break this jinx with this
announcement.
From Thursday onwards, Aircel
subscribers in the southern region
(Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh,
Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and
Puducherry) will not be charged
for incoming calls while they are
travelling within these states, said
Sankara Narayanan K, strategic
business unit head.
According to Narayanan, the
subscriber has to manually choose
Aircel network when they go to other
southern cities/towns so as to enjoy
free incoming calls.
He said the outgoing local and STD
calls will be charged one paise per
second.
According to him, the systems will
be configured accordingly for all
the subscribers -whether they have
prepaid or postpaid accounts.
He said mobile phone subscribers
with roaming facility are growing at a
fast pace from nine percent in 2010 to
30 percent in 2014.
Narayanan said while at an average
local calls account for a talk time of
383 minutes per month, calls while
roaming account for 80 minutes per
month.
Though the roaming talk time has
grown, people are reluctant to
answer incoming calls fearing the
