From this starting point we will move on, and observe how testing at FlixBus evolved over time to a whole-team approach of building quality in. Abstract: How to get from being scared of public speaking to becoming keynote speakers in only three years? An inspirational story cultivated and brewed right here at Agile Testing Days 2016, sees two individuals from different ends of the world strike up a learning partnership that has seen them grow tremendously in a short space of time. Lisi and Toyer will share a unique inspirational journey where accountability and motivation has proven to be a major driving force behind their recent achievements. What started off as a public speaking challenge transformed into an inspiring partnership that has exceeded its initial expectations and grown to include others. From pairing with testers across the world to converting a mind map to a programmatic test reporting tool. From mob programming excellence to starting a cross-continental power learning group. From “becoming code-confident” to stepping into leadership, this journey has seen both of them touch on many current situations and problems faced by many testers around the world, technical and analytical. Talk given at TestBash Manchester 2019 Abstract: “This is scaring me as hell - and that’s exactly why I need to do it!” Can you relate to that? This year, my personal challenge was to become code-confident. As a tester, I felt the need to up my game here. My hypothesis: “I believe that doing many small hands-on coding exercises and challenges, on my own as well as together with other interested people, will result in increased confidence in my programming skills. I’ll know I have succeeded when I have developed a small product from scratch.” What I did was to finally use my GitHub account and create my very first public repository. I called for collaboration and found people willing to review my code and to pair up with me on further challenges. Rinse and repeat! The question to be answered: was jumping headfirst a viable way to improve my coding skills? Join me on this walk through my code - along with the stories of my struggles, the solutions found, and the lessons learned. Workshop given at Agile Testing Days 2017 together with Lisa Crispin: "Testing in a Continuous World - How to Continuously Learn for Successful Continuous Delivery" Abstract: Nowadays users are quite used to getting product updates every other day. Many teams want to release updates to production more frequently, but they’re struggling to complete testing activities and fear that they might deliver big bugs instead of valuable features. Continuous delivery of reliable software is a huge challenge. Many teams already develop their products in small chunks, but how does testing and quality fit into this fast-paced scenario? How can we not only continuously deliver, but continuously provide value to our users? Elisabeth and Lisa have worked in teams who struggled to have testing fully integrated, being able to only release once every few weeks. They’ve also experienced highly collaborative teams who could easily deliver multiple times a day to quickly validate if they added value. What's your situation, can you keep up with testing and release frequently? In this hands-on workshop, participants will have a chance to practice techniques that can help teams feel confident releasing more frequently. We will facilitate activities in which participants will come up with new experiments to help shorten feedback cycles, make sure all essential types of testing are done continually, and fit testing into the continuous world. Let's share experiences and develop custom solutions for your specific scenarios together!

You have to keep growing, keep stretching yourself, keep exploring new worlds so as not to miss the forest for the trees. But how do you actually do that and grow on a daily basis? How can you become a better tester? And what about learning as a team, company, community? Join this talk and hear the lessons I would have liked to hear 9 years ago when falling into testing. ADR, or Architecture Decision Record, is a valuable tool in software development for several reasons. It provides a centralized location for documenting and tracking architectural decisions, aiding both current and future team members. ADRs enhance communication among team members by documenting the rationale behind architectural decisions, especially beneficial during onboarding of new team members or when revisiting decisions. They serve as a knowledge base, enabling teams to learn from past decisions and refine their decision-making process. Additionally, ADRs contribute to transparency by helping stakeholders understand the reasons behind specific architectural choices. As with any other tool or process, introducing them into an organization can face several obstacles, and overcoming these challenges is crucial for successful implementation. In this talk I go through some common problems and our way of solving them.

Modeling languages are generally applied for developing systems and software – both internally, with domain-specific languages, and with standardized languages targeting a general purpose and a wide audience. Way too often these languages are weakly created and defined leading to poor quality: Language definitions tend to contain errors and inconsistencies; notations do not recognize the communication and problem-solving needs of humans; standardization organizations push exchange formats that do not fully work and offer certificates that do not measure mastery of the language. We describe common problems in language development and point them out with examples from known cases. To overcome these problems, we suggest several solutions to improve language development, including using modeling languages specifically designed to define modeling languages, continuous testing and prototyping, and keeping language users in the loop.
