Questions 4 and 5
Who is my target audience?
Gender: Female 85%
Male 15%
 Age range of readers: 9-15 (average age 11)
 ABC1’s = 49%
 AB’s =26%

Common interests of the target demographic:
 Music
 Beauty
 Celebrity life
 Fashion
Mood board of the target audience
Creating my media Pack
 The top of the Pops media pack helped me to create

the media pack for my own magazine because it was
similar in genre and audience.
Research into my Target Audience
 For my magazine I needed to find out their interests

aside from reading pop magazines. I was able to do
this through the use of questionnaires on Survey
Monkey and I also asked my focus group questions
throughout the process of making my magazine.
 Research from the beginning allowed me to
understand what needed to be featured in the
magazine e.g. artist interviews, album reviews,
celebrity gossip and the latest fashion trends.
Psychographic
 As you can see from my survey,100%

of the audience listen to music.
 100% of the audience also watch films.
 50% also enjoy going shopping.
 This information allowed me to
decide in what order of preference I
needed to include certain features in my
magazine. Also through the statistic
that 50% enjoyed going shopping, I
was able to assume that similarly to
other pop magazines I was going to
have a large female readership as shopping
is mainly seen as a feminine activity.
Deciding on the content
 The content is one of the most important elements of

the magazine, so I asked in my questionnaire what
they expected to find in a pop magazine.
 The research brought back that they wanted music
news, reviews of new albums, reviews of live music
concerts, celebrity gossip, and the latest fashion and
beauty tips from celebrities in the pop genre.
 I made sure that these were the main elements I
included for different coverstories in the magazine.
Use of colour
 Bright colours appealed to my target audience because






of there young age and informal magazine choices.
A heavy use of feminine colours would also be used
because 85% of the target audience was female.
The main colours I used were Pink, blue and white.
I used pink for the background on all of the pages and
also a different shade of pink for the masthead.
I used yellow in smaller amounts to make certain
coverstories stand out from the first look at the
magazine.
Range of fonts
 A pop magazine has a light, upbeat tone which my

focus group agreed that it met the conventions of. To
meet the informal style I used serif fonts which also
appealed to the large female readership.
 For the body of the text I kept it simple and clear for
the audience to be able to navigate from on the
contents page.
 For the masthead I decided to use a handwritten
font, which made the magazine appear more
personal and chatty tone to the audience.
Range of images
 The cover image is the main feature of the front cover which is

the first thing the audience are drawn to. I found it important to
meet the conventions of the pop genre but also to meet the
guidelines of the target audience feedback.
 The clothing choices of the artists in the cover image needed to
be on trend but also showing an element of personality within
the featured band.
 I used a mid/long shot for the cover image to show
all of the band members and their clothing choices.
 I didn't use any props because I didn't feel they
were conventional for the pop genre.
Mode of address
 The mode of address of the magazine needed to be

friendly, chatty and informal because of the young
nature of the target audience.
 When creating the coverlines on the cover I used
language such as “Get the Goss” or “Celeb Twitter
Update”.
 I carried this on throughout the magazine especially
on the double page spread through some of the
questions that were asked of a informal genre.
Front Cover
Colour:
The colours appeal to
my target audience
because they are
bright and eye
catching. They also
match the mainly
female demographic.

Costume:
The clothing choices of
the people in the picture
are on trend and also
individual for each
member whilst the colours
partially match, to show
the band’s unity.
Coverstory:
The theme of the
coverstory is personal to
the artist and is also
only an opening to the
story so it makes the
audience want to buy
the magazine and read
on.
Contents Page
Image:
I decided to use an
image of the front cover
on the contents page
because it allowed for
the audience to find
out more about the
stories from the cover.
Image:
The smaller images at
the bottom of the page
helped to appeal to a
variety of audience
members from
different social groups.

The Masthead:
The masthead is of
the same font style as
the front cover to
promote continuity
in the magazine. The
same font would also
allow for the
magazine to become
more recognisable to
the audience in
future issues.
Body of Text :
The main text was in a
plain font so it was
easier for the audience
to read and find the
information from.
Double Page spread

Masthead:
The masthead of the
page is also in the same
font as the front cover
and contents page.
The blue colour choice
also helped to connote
masculinity which links
to the featured artists
being a male boy band.

Image:
The clothing of the boys is
smart/casual to make it look like a
more professional photo shoot.
There personality is also expressed
to the audience, with Ashley
wearing a hoodie whilst James
wears a shirt.

Target audience 4 and 5

  • 2. Who is my target audience? Gender: Female 85% Male 15%  Age range of readers: 9-15 (average age 11)  ABC1’s = 49%  AB’s =26% Common interests of the target demographic:  Music  Beauty  Celebrity life  Fashion
  • 3. Mood board of the target audience
  • 4. Creating my media Pack  The top of the Pops media pack helped me to create the media pack for my own magazine because it was similar in genre and audience.
  • 5. Research into my Target Audience  For my magazine I needed to find out their interests aside from reading pop magazines. I was able to do this through the use of questionnaires on Survey Monkey and I also asked my focus group questions throughout the process of making my magazine.  Research from the beginning allowed me to understand what needed to be featured in the magazine e.g. artist interviews, album reviews, celebrity gossip and the latest fashion trends.
  • 6. Psychographic  As you can see from my survey,100% of the audience listen to music.  100% of the audience also watch films.  50% also enjoy going shopping.  This information allowed me to decide in what order of preference I needed to include certain features in my magazine. Also through the statistic that 50% enjoyed going shopping, I was able to assume that similarly to other pop magazines I was going to have a large female readership as shopping is mainly seen as a feminine activity.
  • 7. Deciding on the content  The content is one of the most important elements of the magazine, so I asked in my questionnaire what they expected to find in a pop magazine.  The research brought back that they wanted music news, reviews of new albums, reviews of live music concerts, celebrity gossip, and the latest fashion and beauty tips from celebrities in the pop genre.  I made sure that these were the main elements I included for different coverstories in the magazine.
  • 8. Use of colour  Bright colours appealed to my target audience because     of there young age and informal magazine choices. A heavy use of feminine colours would also be used because 85% of the target audience was female. The main colours I used were Pink, blue and white. I used pink for the background on all of the pages and also a different shade of pink for the masthead. I used yellow in smaller amounts to make certain coverstories stand out from the first look at the magazine.
  • 9. Range of fonts  A pop magazine has a light, upbeat tone which my focus group agreed that it met the conventions of. To meet the informal style I used serif fonts which also appealed to the large female readership.  For the body of the text I kept it simple and clear for the audience to be able to navigate from on the contents page.  For the masthead I decided to use a handwritten font, which made the magazine appear more personal and chatty tone to the audience.
  • 10. Range of images  The cover image is the main feature of the front cover which is the first thing the audience are drawn to. I found it important to meet the conventions of the pop genre but also to meet the guidelines of the target audience feedback.  The clothing choices of the artists in the cover image needed to be on trend but also showing an element of personality within the featured band.  I used a mid/long shot for the cover image to show all of the band members and their clothing choices.  I didn't use any props because I didn't feel they were conventional for the pop genre.
  • 11. Mode of address  The mode of address of the magazine needed to be friendly, chatty and informal because of the young nature of the target audience.  When creating the coverlines on the cover I used language such as “Get the Goss” or “Celeb Twitter Update”.  I carried this on throughout the magazine especially on the double page spread through some of the questions that were asked of a informal genre.
  • 12. Front Cover Colour: The colours appeal to my target audience because they are bright and eye catching. They also match the mainly female demographic. Costume: The clothing choices of the people in the picture are on trend and also individual for each member whilst the colours partially match, to show the band’s unity. Coverstory: The theme of the coverstory is personal to the artist and is also only an opening to the story so it makes the audience want to buy the magazine and read on.
  • 13. Contents Page Image: I decided to use an image of the front cover on the contents page because it allowed for the audience to find out more about the stories from the cover. Image: The smaller images at the bottom of the page helped to appeal to a variety of audience members from different social groups. The Masthead: The masthead is of the same font style as the front cover to promote continuity in the magazine. The same font would also allow for the magazine to become more recognisable to the audience in future issues.
