Banksy is a pseudonymous English graffiti artist, activist, filmmaker and painter known for his satirical street art and political commentary. His work, done in a distinctive stenciling technique, combines dark humor with pieces featured in cities around the world. Banksy was born in 1974 in Bristol, England and trained as a butcher before getting involved in graffiti during the 1980s Bristol aerosol art movement. He was inspired by other European graffiti artists and the anarcho-punk band Crass. Banksy is known for displaying art in public spaces and criticizing the criminalization of graffiti as vandalism.
